actors

What if a famous actor wanted to get into a good college... say... Miley Cirus or whatever her name is trying to get into Harvard(pretend 4.0 gpa and all that)... would it hurt or help chances? I've just always wondered, since child stars don't all grow up and stay in that business.

Undoubtedly help a lot. I think that the Olson twins went to Columbia and Jonathan Taylor Thomas went to Harvard or something.

olson twins went to nyu i thought? natalie portman went to harvard too, so i think it's safe to say that being a child actor is a sizeable EC.

At Stanford we had Fred Savage and Jennifer Connelly. I remember seeing Brooke Shields on campus when touring Princeton.

Didnt Matt Damon go to Harvard before he was famous (which makes it all the more impressive)

if we "assume she had a 4.0 and all that" then obviously she's getting in. She's qualified (under the assumption) has acheieved such high marks with a very rigorous extracurricular, brings fame to the university, and will probably be a big donor. Any school would be foolish to pass on her.

Quite frankly, she'd probably get in regardless of grades.

im not so sure didnt Boston College waitlist like Maria Shrivers daughter or someone like that

^ I think they're specifically talking about child actors...not just anyone that connected to someone famous.

I don't think Harvard or any other Ivy would give up on a girl who's bound to be worth a billion by the time she's 18. *Heard it on VH1 lol

Olsen twins went to NYU. I think that being famous isn't automatic acceptance.

Maybe someone can help me out about why those people go to college? Is it just for the experience (which you don't really get when you are surrounded by bodyguards), they want to learn about that topic, or what? It's not like they really need a degree to get a job that pays the amount they make per day acting over a year.

Oh, being famous and making millions is like the ultimate EC, duh. Of course it's automatic acceptance.

You guys think the same even if the person had a bad rep? Let's expand this a little more to anyone famous w/ a lot of money. Paris Hilton? Britney Spears? Oh, and to OKgirl, why go to college if it's just for the money?

The money might be a huge factor here, but I'm not sure about the bad rep thing. I think if they had good grades, yeah, actors/actresses would get accepted.

Reese Witherspoon attended Stanford; Adam Sandler (NYU); Maggie Gyllenhaal (Columbia).

I don't think celebs with really bad reps will make it to Ivys unless their parents pull some major strings. Plus, people who are smart enough to get into the top schools would be too smart to accidently leak out a sex tape, right? Idk..but I just don't see Paris attending Havard. Or Yale. Or Princeton. Or...nvm.

Natalie Portman went to Harvard but she's actually smart.

i know james franco is going to nyu this year...

Sometimes, actors go to college just to feel more complete. Often, child actors have to skimp on high school, so many welcome the opportunity for higher education. Others want to be somewhat normal in a crazy world. For instance, Carrie Underwood went back to Oklahoma after she won Idol to finish her veterinary degree, which she suspended while competing. She said that she just felt she should finish what she started.

Lol, their parents?...

do you honestly still think the leaking of Paris Hilton's sex tape was an accident? In my opinion, if your career goal is to be famous for no true accomplishments, that sex tape "scandal" was one of the most successful career moves of the last 5 years.

Also, I do not think the Olsen twins ended up at NYU because they couldn't do better. I'm pretty sure they chose NYU. They probably wanted to live in NYC, and that leaves you with really only two choices: Columbia and NYU. If you're going to go into film (while their) acting days are probably over, their involvement in film/TV is probably not, NYU is without a doubt a much stronger program. Regardless of what you're going to study, NYU and Columbia are so different that it is not hard to believe that someone would prefer NYU over Columbia. They have very different atmospheres (curriculum style, campus layout) and are located in VERY different parts of the city.
