I took the ACT twice…should I send both of my scores? On the first one, I did poorly (a 28) on the 3rd I got a 33. Should I send both? And for the colleges (specifically the ivys/top tier schools) who claim they prefer all scores, is that just recommended or required?
Send the 33. How would they know how many times you took it?
Unless it’s explicitly required (stanford for example) send only your best score
@Wje9164be so for stanford wld those 2 scores look bad? or wld the jump be good?
Stanford does a true holistic review but if I had a 33 and a 28 I would not send the 28. D had a. 35 and 36 and she only sent the 36
@Wje9164be congrats to your D! And did she send the SAT as well? The ACT is the only main score I am sending…
Hey. Send that 33 no question. If you’ve taken it multiple times, you are to self report the number of times taken on the CommonApp anyways right?
I’m not sure what Stanford’s testing policies are but if they want you to send both, then send both the SAT and ACT. If you have the option to choose, only send in the ACT if that’s what makes you look better. Send in the ACT and any SAT IIs that have great scores. If you SAT is not too good, then don’t send it in. Simple as that - only if they let you choose.
@Kokko2k15 I only took the ACT, not SAT. So, I will prob just send in the 33! Thank you for your advice
Uh… Stanford requires you to send all scores, so you have to send the 28 as well. Don’t worry though; they look only at your best score. Stanford does this to make sure that you are not a test-taking machine
Since Stanford makes you send both scores as Hawkace says, yes, sure, send in the 28 too. A 5 point jump means improvement even if you didn’t get the 33 on a first try.
I don’t see a reason why the 28 would hurt when sending it in since you improved so much on your latest test!
Send both. It wont hurt you.
Most colleges have score choice, which means that you decide which scores to send. To those colleges send the 33. A small number of colleges require additional scores. When you apply check the rules for each college on your list and send the scores (consistent with the rules) that showcase your achievements best.
As a side note, college admissions is not into “improvement” assessment when they look at standard test results.
Oh, never mind. I thought it was specifically for Stanford. That’s why I said to send both (they require all testing). Otherwise, send just the 33 to schools that accept any score.
@IAMtheGOAT yea that’s what I’m gonna end up doing @fogcity and wow did not know that colleges are not into improvement… Thanks for the tip
