Actuarial science major at Smeal

Anybody doing this major?

Or know someone who is?

Is it really hard?

How's the workload?

How would you compare it to other majors? Like business (finance), engineering, math, physics? In terms of difficulty and workload

I was going to but instead I choose to double major Finance and Mathematics with a focus on Actuarial Mathematics. I'll be a freshman in Fall 2008 by the way.

I know someone at PSU now who is doing it and she has secured a very good job in New York--don't know much more than that though.

i want to major in that too. do they have a good program for it? like i heard some colleges will prepare you for 1 or 2 exams during the 4 years, what about PSU?

bump!! just got accepted to psu smeal, and want to know if their courses are good to prepare students for up to 4 exams

i stumbled upon a brochure ad about this program last semester. According to it, the program pays specific attention to test prep. I would suggest getting in contact with the college directly though.,

bump!! just got accepted to psu smeal, and want to know if their courses are good to prepare students for up to 4 exams

4 exams is probably too many to pass before graduation

It doesn't help you get a better job any more than 2 or 3 would

2 or 3 max is what you should do before graduation

Then you can study and take more after you get your job, and you will get a higher raise for each additional one

But yea, I was told they prepare you to pass the first 3

Here's a sample schedule of an actuarial science major at PSU

Actuarial Science — Smeal Undergraduate Student Exchange

i'll be a freshman this fall majoring in actuarial science, i got into other schools but picked penn state because of their well developed act sci program. i went to visit yesterday and the second i got on campus i said to myself that i had to go there. the speaker at the accepted smeal student info session said the act sci program was the most respected out of all of the smeal majors
