<p>does anyone know of a mid who recieved an appointment who had ADD/ADHD?? or is obtaining a waiver for this pretty rare?</p>
<p>My son has ADHD. The big thing is that you no longer require medication to manage grades or behavior ( preferably ending at adolescence). We found this out after having a loud discussion about meds 2 1/2 yrs ago. Called DODMERB in CO and actually spoke with medical board physician. Son stopped taking meds all together. His grades did drop some and teachers used a great deal of patience but he made it thru and now is USNA 2011. DODMERB did require all documentation and a ltr from physcian to get waiver. They told us it runs on a case by case situation, but there are lots of high achievers with ADD and waivers are granted.</p>

<p>I recieved a waiver for ADHD (DoDMERB calls it "Academic Skills Defects") and received my letter of appointment in February. I was worried about it too since I took medication for all of the standarized testing but have not taken medication since last fall. How long have you been on medication? I'm not sure how rare this type of thing is but I do know that the Academy is putting less stress on medical disqualifying conditions. They say they do determine these things on a case-by-case basis but basically you just have to be persistent and prove that you are not dependent on medication and can function well at the Academy despite your "condition." Let me know if you have any other questions about this.</p>
