After a couple of denials and pulling an application, my D wants to add one final school. We've discussed UArts at length forever, it seems, and she finally decided not to apply. She has only one true safety and that is an in-state non auditioned BFA. We both looked at the list of non auditioned BA and BFA programs, but she has decided not to apply to any of those. She is aware that she has set the bar pretty high and may end up having to take a gap year. She is okay with that, and I have come to accept it. She has decided, though, to add one more school. We poured through the latest Dramatics magazine and she has posted to the Allied facebook group. After looking at sites and reading, she thinks she wants to apply to Wright State. Any thoughts?

It will actually work fairly well to add the school because of interviews already set up at DePaul and Otterbein. We can squeeze in Wright State easily. We also looked at Western Kentucky, but I think she nixed that one.

Well, I’ve already sent you an email about this, but I’m happy to say it again. My son LOVED Wright State when he went up to audition. He has been involved in the Shakespeare tavern’s summer intensive and has worked with two graduates from wright state so he had heard good things about it. When he went to visit, he was able to participate in a day long master class on Friday and then audition on Saturday. He loved the students and the faculty! He definitely left there feeling that he would not be “settling” (since it may not be on everyone’s top ten list so some may not view it as a top tier school) if he was accepted there (which, I am excited to say, he has been accepted). I know everyone is looking for a different “it” at their dream school. But I definitely feel that Wright State would surprise a lot of people. Honestly, we found it more impressive than Elon or Uncsa - but again, everyone is looking for something different. My son’s attraction was the faculty, the other students and the rigor of the program.

Thanks, dramamama. Your message was one of the reasons my D started looking at Wright State. I have to tell you that I haven’t read or heard anything negative about the school. Of course, there are ups and downs to all programs, but all I’ve read thus far is very positive.

ugadog99-did I see your D got into Point Park on another thread?

Photomom, only academically at PPU right now. That was done in October, I think. We are still waiting on artistically. Since she now has to do a Skype/phone interview, I have no idea when we will hear anything else.

Got it! S is accepted academically as well but I think we are going to pull his application as he prefers Hartt…not sure but probably.
