When I visited Brandeis the admissions officer was very adamant that students who want to submit a supplement like a research paper abstract or a pown they wrote should not hesitate to do so. However, where in the app is it appropriate to do so? Can I attach it to the resume section? I know they allow emailing supplementary info but is there a way via the common app? Thank you!
*poem (sorry this is the best I managed via my phone )
Also do you think the extra resume sections on the various college apps can be used to submit more of a creative resume/miscellaneous portfolio? Do I have leeway (eg can it include a poem I wrote, images, etc… has anyone ever done this before and how do you think it went? )
I don’t think it is a good idea to try to force overstuff your application and just use any space to cram things in that are unasked for. I think you should be judicious and consider being clean and focused somewhat and considerate of the readers. You do make it sound tempting what you are thinking of but I would not out it in resume. However colleges that accept portfolios do have a way to submit via slideroom or other.
I would email Brandeis admissions and ask how to submit an abstract if it is not apparent.
@BrownParent Yes, I know what you mean and I don’t personally think it sounds appropriate to include it in the resume section. However, the Brandeis admissions lady who is going to be reviewing my application specifically said, you should include it if it’s something which is important to you or showcases a part of you not otherwise apparent, and it will not hurt. At that point it would be a little silly to be apprehensive from my end :P! Thank you for the advice though.
I will definitely send an email to them about it but if anyone has actually done something similar, please do let me know how you did it :).
