Additional Recs

In the Brown Application it seems like there is only room for 3 teacher recs. What if I want to get an extra rec from a science professor I have been doing work with? Can I do that and what kind of form do I need?

I have sort of the same question, like how would I incorporate recs from Brown alums??

the extra rec form is specifically for the chem, bio, physics, etc, majors b/c they are heavily interested in science. therefore, if you aren't thinking about majoring in that, especially as a freshman applicant, don't use this extra rec form. my brother is a senior at Brown and works at the admissions office. he hears the directors complaining all the time about the english majors having 3 recs.

along those same lines, brown alum recs shouldn't be filled out using any form. i would suggest that, if the rec is really beneficial, you have the alum send it like any other rec letter, without an official brown form. They know how important alum recs are, and will not just toss it away.

I don't mean to hijack your thread, but is it a bad idea to have 3 letters of recommendation if I'm going to concentrate in a non-science? My two main "recommenders" are my English and my French teachers, and I am getting a third recommendation letter from my Pre-Calculus teacher from last year (I want to concentrate in either COE or economics so I wanted a non-humanities teacher to write one for me). I know they're all going to be good recs, so what should I do?

xxalexi_32, i am not talking about the third rec form. I am talking about having rec(s) in addition to the 3 standard recs for science people.

orestes -- there's no reason for you to have 3 teacher recs. Only do an additional rec if it's somebody who has seen another side of you that really doesn't come through in your application (i.e. your boss at an interesting internship, a religious leader, etc)

Yeah, you're definitely right, three is just too much. However, I think that she's already writing the letter for me and I would feel horrible telling her that I don't need the letter anymore, considering that she's taking the time out of her busy schedule to do so...I don't know what to tell her!
