Our son applied to USC, Miami Frost and NYU (his top 3) and we are waiting to hear if he is invited to USC for an audition. It looks like in other posts some have received an invite for an on campus audition already, is that correct?

He has not received a confirmation email from Frost for his audition (classical-percussion) and the date he selected is feb 1st. Does everyone get an audition slot (there was no prescreen) or could he get the dreaded 'sorry' email.

He is a talented musician (2nd chair all state 5A band in TX) and in top 5% of his class. We know these schools are the most competitive and even some outstanding musicians will get a no. This is going to be a long month waiting to hear yes or no so we can move forward in the process.

Hi MooreMom4 - I cannot comment on those specific schools, but one thing in general that you cannot expect is uniformity of decision timing even within the same concentration. I know it is hard to hear that others may have heard something and not read something into that. Each school is different and schools also vary as to what each considers reasonable notice of an audition. Try and relax and good luck. A good thing is that there are several folks on this forum with experience with your schools and they can do more to help than just my words of hang in there.

Thanks CompDad. We are just trying to figure this out asap since the usc audition is in 3 weeks and they say not to buy airfare/book hotel until you get an email inviting you to audition live. He has some great back up schools but who wouldn’t want their kid to get one of their dream schools.

If travel wasn’t tied to this email then we would not worry but airfare is not cheap these days, especially as you get closer to the date of travel.

One piece of advice given quite often is to call the admissions office. Most of the time they are helpful in this regard.

@Mooremom4: I would have your S check his spam folder and then call Thornton. At this time last year my S still had not received any email from USC. We thought it was odd that he didn’t hear either way. We called them and they in fact sent an email out on Dec. 23 inviting him to an audition in January. It must have been sent to his spam and then erased. I can see that happening with a bulk of emails going out from one place. Best of luck to your son!

Mooremom4: D received audition email on Dec. 21 (for piano). The email went on to say that the admissions office will reopen on Jan. 7 at 9am. I would give them a call then – best of luck!
