Sorry, made a mistake in the SAT1 scores:

SAT Reasoning: verbal: 720, writing: 710, maths: 800

decent SAT I scores, however if this is all you have as ECs, then its not the hottest. Hopefully you have more that you've not mentioned here. btw are you doing ED or RD? good luck!

dismal ec's, stellar grades.

Couldn't get into IIT, could you?

I kid.

Can you write decently? No offense man (or woman), but your post here is REALLY stilted, precisely fitting the stereotype of the genius Indian robot. A lively, fun, engaging essay would make you stand out.

Sorry i couldn't post my ec's.

to pyroclastic,

no i wasn't rejected by IIT.
I am writing the IIT mains in March 2006.
I am just keeping all my options open

You have great chance most probably at caltech or stanford. why would you want to go to Pton.
actually if you can clear IIT why would you want to go to the US in the first place.

btw IIT exam is on april 9th and not in march.

He might want to go to the US to broaden his experience base.

why do u say that i have a great chance at stanford. don't they look for out of the world ec's. actually, i'm applying to the US since i am very much interested in research, and as you know iit's the best only for engineering. Plus. my cousin's at Princeton.
btw, are you writing the iit also. It's become a single exam now. Our ACE teacher told us that it's goin to drastically help the nerds and , well, put the brainy guys at a disadvantage. Is that true

Hmmmm....what is this distinction between "nerds" and "brainy guys" lol...they are pretty much synonyms to me.

I agree that your EC's aren't really up to par, Princeton-wise, but your great academic credentials could get you by with a really good essay, as pyroclastic mentioned. I would definitely look into MIT as well.

well if open ended research is what you want to do then I would suggest Princeton. Yeah I'm gonna write the IIT too (but actually I am really not that serious about it...I want to go abroad).
And well I dont think the new pattern in any way has harmed anyone. Its still a competition although now there might be a difference of 10-20 ranks if one guesses (guesswork will be helpful in this pattern). Otherwise I dont think there is any alteration ...I mean you still have to be extraordinarily hardworking and intelligent to get a good rank or to even get selected.
