So I am a Junior in a Texas High School and wanted to know what my chances are to get into the TAMU Engineering program. I am in the 2nd quartile at my high school with a 3.6 GPA. I have a 1340 SAT and am waiting on the results of the National Merit competition to see if I qualify as a semi finalist(PSAT: 1460/1520). I am also involved in many extracurricular activities such as Basketball, XC, NHS, etc. I have also been on a few visits to the campus which I know they value during their admissions process…
Have you been to an engineering information admissions session? I think it is fair to say no one will know how this will all really go down now that they have changed the “top 10% rule” specifically for engineering students in 2017.
I would think the new holistic review would favor students like you whose class rank is not at the tippy top BUT who has good test scores and good ECs.
I attended their “National Scholar Invitational” where they first went over admissions in a broad perspective then we split into desired major branches(engineering, business, etc.) to discuss admissions, honors and other things related to each major.
