Admission chances

Hi! I’m currently a junior in high school and it’s the end of the second semester. I have a 4.0 unweighted gpa. My school does not do weighted gpa. Freshman year I took: English 9, Geometry, Spanish 2, US History, Choir, and Biology. Sophomore year I took: English 10 honors, Algebra 2 Honors, Spanish 3, Civics & Economics, Choir, and Chemistry. Junior year I took: English 11 honors, Precalculus, Spanish 4, AP Macroeconomics, Organic Chemistry, and AP Biology. Senior year I’m taking: AP English, AP Calculus, Spanish 5, World History, Physics, and human anatomy. There are only 7 AP classes available at my school and I have taken 4. I have taken 3/3 honors classes available. I got a 33 on the ACT and a 1370 on the SAT. I’m retaking both of them in a few weeks. I’m involved in National Honors Society, Key Club, Student Council, and Future Doctors of America. I’m on varsity soccer and I play club soccer and futsal. This summer I’m attending Miami University summer scholars program and I’m going on a trip to England with my AP english class. I ref youth soccer games and regularly babysit one of my neighbors. I volunteer in the hospital cancer center once a week and I mentor a second grader. I also help coach a youth soccer team. I was wondering what my admission chances would be for: University of Southern California, UCLA, Boston u, Boston college, Northeastern, Ohio State, Cu Boulder, u of michigan, michigan state, Miami U, and wisconsin madison. I also was wondering on ideas to improve my admission chances.

I live in Michigan and I am a caucasian female. My sister had similar statistics to me and she was accepted to MSU, U of M, and other colleges that I am not considering

It looks like your ACT score is stronger than the SAT so you may want to focus your energy on the ACT. Do you plan to take any subject tests?

You’ve got a list of great schools, but they are pretty competitive. Be sure to have a couple of safeties - both academic and financial. You didn’t mention your budget, but some of the schools you have listed are not particularly generous with merit aid.

Your essays will be really important. To increase your chances it never hurts to do a little research about each school so you can identify organizations, programs or research topics that you really connect with when you write your “why [insert college name here] essay. The schools you have listed get tens of thousands of qualified applicants every year so students who will get involved and make a difference on campus may spark a bit of interest. Try to share what you will do with your 4 years that will make it a better place.

Michigan State is my safety school. Both of my parents work there so I get 50% off tuition and there are no worries about me getting in there. I took the SAT Molecular Biology test but I did not do very well on it because it was different biology than I learned in school. Would you recommend I take other subject tests? My parents did not give me a particular budget because I am very lucky and my great grandparents left me a very generous trust fund that I must use for my education or I do not get to use it until I’m thirty something.

Miami U is also one of my safety schools because I am going to be a summer scholar there and 98% of summer scholars get into Miami.
