Admission Criteria for Stern School of Business (NYU)

Hello,
I am a parent of rising Senior. When i researched admission criteria for NYU on Cappex.com for my daughter’s profile (GPA 3.6/4, ACT 36/36) it showed her chances to be 65-75%. Can anyone comment on the real chances of her getting into Stern School with this profile vs. getting into NYU in general? My daughter is interested in Econ / Business.

It is hard to chance anyone, as there are so many other factors. But in general, your daughter’s GPA seems rather weak compared to her test scores as a Stern candidate. If your daughter attends a highly competitive school and has a strong class rank, it will also be considered during the decision process. NYU Stern is as competitive as Ivy to get in. Other schools at NYU are less competitive than Stern. Good luck!

Stern will also take a hard look at what classes your D took. Did she have a B in a high level AP math class? Obviously that will sit with them better than a B in a lower level math class.

Will your guidance counselor be able to check off that she took the most rigorous curriculum the school offered? They will also look to see that she is taking calculus as a senior, and my ask for mid-year grades if she is on the cusp.

Good luck!
