so there’s still a glimmer of hope?!?!

Well, still no news. Must be lost mail as everyone else in our town heard promptly on Monday (6 of them). My D called and was told all decisions went out last week and that if she still hasn’t gotten it in the mail by January 3rd (after break) they will send it out again. Sounds like a no to me. Can’t imagine any other reason they wouldn’t be concerned about student notification. I think this is the only school she has applied to that does not have on-line notification. The wait, so far a week past the promised deadline, is stressful.

^Oh, that’s too bad, offyougo! Waiting IS stressful.

Your D’s answer may well be a no, and only time will tell. BUT, I wouldn’t take the mail delay, nor the admissions office’s apparent lack of concern, as an indicator of that. Please don’t worry yet! :)

After all, the mail delay has nothing to do with SMU (even “no’s” have been mailed and received by some), and the lack of concern you perceived likely has much more to do with them wrapping up for the holidays (no pun intended) and the reality that there is no real urgency to get her notification out (other than to ease her anxiety, which would be nice).

I hope she gets her answer soon! And I hope the two of you can avoid reading any more into it than the fact that her mail has apparently been delayed.

Good luck!!! :)

Thanks, SimpleLife, for the kind post and support. The wait has been stressful since it was her first choice and she had been counting the days to the Dec 15th promised notification. The fact that it is lost or delayed in the mail is not SMU’s fault, but from her perspective, she does not understand why a week after the decision deadline they cannot tell her what their decision is. Given the marketing effort they expended to get the students to apply, it doesn’t seem like good business to let an accepted student who has let them know it is their first choice wait several weeks for lost mail—which is why we are assuming it must be a rejection. I suppose when they mail a replacement letter after the break, she will get it in enough time to still be able to commit to her 2nd choice, by Jan 15th, but of course her 2nd choice has already contacted her by phone and e-mail to follow up on the acceptance they sent her and there is something to be said for going to a good school that really wants you. . We are putting this to bed now for the holidays and will regroup in January. We’ve now seen a different side of SMU which is probably a good thing. Happy Holidays and thanks again.

@offyougo
I was told by SMU that I would find out the week of Christmas an I live in Dallas. Theyailed their decision out on Dec 17th (which I know for sure because their is a date on the letter!!) I hope you get yours soon. I know it’s stressful!
