So they received all of my application materials on 10/15/09
How long does it usually take to get back the application decision? - not in top 10%

Since you are not automatic, it may take a while. It also depends on your stats and your choice of major.

I thought if you weren’t in the top 10% you had to wait until after the December 1 deadline before they even start to review you? I know they tell that transfer applicants, that even if we apply early we won’t be looked at until after the deadline has passed, and I could have sworn I read something similar for non-10% Freshman… You can always call the admissions office for more information, they’re very helpful although they tend to have a wide date range for decision notifications.

I think if you have like a 1500 SAT and you are applying for education, and you are top 15%, you may hear earlier.

ie No brainer acceptances for UT.

I know some kids last year who weren’t top 10%, but heard early because of circumstances like ^^

Also, my son’s freshman year roommate was OOS and heard he got in McCombs by October. Of course he was a valedictorian, NMF with close to perfect SAT scores ;)

I think it all depends on the circumstances. But, for the most part, you are correct that you may have to wait til spring or at least after the deadline.

33 ACT
top 14% at a very large plano school (~1000 in graduating class - send a lot of people to UT)
and im applying to the College Of Natural Sciences (Bio) as my first choice and the College Of Liberal Arts (Psych) as my second.

Dont know if that changes when i should hear back though…

Sorry, but you are not one of those for-sure admits, so you will have to wait until the regular decision admission decisions come out.

My friend was 97/965 with 32 ACT at Plano West last year and did not find out until March. He got in to Education, and has now transferred into business.

I had a friend who was 13% at Plano Sr, National Hispanic Merit, plenty of AP classes, etc, and did not get accepted to Liberal Arts at UT.

I’m in the governing body of mccombs and through what we talked about last year regarding the top 10% rule seems to be that they are going to be setting a cap for it throughout the school as a whole (not just mccombs). I’m not sure if this will be in place by class of 2014 or 2015, but SOON, the top 10% rule will unofficially become the top 5%-7% rule at UT. The way they’re doing it is by capping the automatic admit group to about 75% of the class. So apply early!

My daughter applied to Jackson Geosciences in October and didn’t find out about her acceptance til mid March. Sorry to bear this news, but even top students who are not top 10%ers have to wait this long. It doesn’t seem right and fair but that is way it is. She was in a competitive Fort Bend High school and was about top 15%. It might be worth the wait for you if it takes that long.

Based on past year’s posts, it is not unusual to have to wait til March to hear.
