Admission Decisions Timeline for Tulane

I just got back from visiting Tulane again. As I was sitting in the admissions office, the phones were ringing off the hook with concerned applicants. I was speaking to a couple of the people answering the phones and they said they had over 40 messages just that morning. From what I saw, they looked quite overwhelmed.

Montegut - I would be shocked if there is a school that gets all their admittances from EA/ED, but it would be interesting to see a table of those kind of stats for different schools. But I highly doubt that info is available.

Sounds like a wild year at Tulane. Should be interesting.

And last year Tulane said that they had to defer or turn away many very qualified students who applied RD simply because they had accepted so many students earlier in the year. I wouldn’t be surprised if they are deferring more students who apply early this year, simply so they can get a good look at the RD applicants as well.

My daughter was accepted to Tulane today. She checked her online status that congratulated her as a new student. No envelope as of yet in the mail. She applied no more than 2 weeks ago (actually I think she applied around 10/31) and her status was “complete and under review” a few days later. From “under review” to “accepted” was no more than a week.

I was just accepted today! but for these purposes, I sent in the app October 9th and they listed as “complete” October 23rd so exactly a month after submitting the app and about 2 and a 1/2 weeks after saying complete* and CHIEFS, that is a little weird, maybe you’re missing supplemental material (SAT/ACT, Transcript, etc)

oh, and just note that Tulane takes an incredibly long time to process transcripts (all of my other stuff was processed w/in 3 days, but my transcript took 2 weeks)… so don’t worry; they’re overloaded right now, and if you’re starting to submit this week, the notification timeline will probably be later (b/c the EA deadline is about to pass)

Does anyone know if Tulane posts if you are deferred or denied admission on the application site before they send a letter in the mail? D is very borderline - applied EA 10/15 but changed to SCEA about a week later and visited Tulane last weekend (LOVED IT!!). Still shows decision pending…

I got accepted today too!!!
For me, it took them like a week and a half to process everything except my counselor form (because my counselor took some time to do that), but once that was in, it took a week for them to get back to me with a decision.

I’ve not heard anyone say their deferral was posted on the website. Rather, the site still showed the decision as pending, and then they got a letter in the mail.

Can anyone confirm this? Tried to call and the phone just rings and rings - I’m sure it is a zoo there.

You might want to read the threads from last year, 3bysmom. I seem to recall that they were very backed up, and some posters whose statuse didnt change from “under review” ultimately received acceptance letters in the mail, but that deferred students also had the “under review” message. If they called the school, I think they were told their letter would be forthcoming. There is a member of the TU admissions staff onthis forum. His name is Tulane Jeff. You might want to PM him, and let us know what he says. Good luck!! I am heading to NOLA today for a conference, weather permitting (it is pouring here and expected to continue all day :frowning: )

OK, ds’s app just became complete this afternoon, according to the website. Doesn’t say “under review.” Let’s see how long a decision takes.

S admitted this week. Went from application complete and under review by admissions to accepted in 3 1/2 weeks.

Anyone have any news this week? My son’s app went complete last friday.

its been two weeks since my application was noted complete and under review but today the tab is just blank. is it normal??

My application status has been complete for 3 and a half weeks. It is killing me!

ds, too, leeduh. Can’t imagine how long the non-priority apps take!

starting to worry…d applied 10/15, although it took forever for everything to reach file. Just got the message a few weeks ago that the file was complete, so we have been watching for a response. Got the typical “file pending review” message for those weeks and today it changed to a differently worded message something to the effect that “will try to get decision in a few weeks, by 12/15 at latest”. Is this a message for those who are going to be deferred? Thought d had a great chance. 31 ACT, top 5% of class, great recommendation, pretty good but not stellar EC’s. ideas?

Hi dkloos: when my d applied I looked at the applicant stats and tried to compare her in terms of SAT’s and Class rank and what the admission decision was. My conclusion was that she would be accepted. That’s what happened. Try that and see if it works for you. Based on the info you present she should be an admit.

hope this helps

Agree with mypsych, she should be a definite admit. Probably just a glitch in the system. Given what others have said about their response times, she might want to shoot off a quick e-mail to her adcom. She might be borderline for a merit scholarship and it is possible they are trying to assess the overall picture before sending her letter, but that is just a wild guess. I would just ask if there is anything else she can provide to them to help with their decision, or something like that. It might spur a look at her file and get them to post a decision.
