So I applied on the 14th of November and it still says they’re missing my transcript and counselor form when I go and check the status!! I mean they say to allow 2-3 weeks to process paper forms, but I’m starting to freak outttt!!! I’ve been in communication with the office, and they’ve asked me to check back again this Friday. I just can’t understand why they wouldn’t have it!!

They have it, they are just snowed under, and of course there was Thanksgiving. Just relax, you are fine. Deep breaths. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale. Better? They will be catching up now that some deadlines are passing or past.

OK, thanks fallenchemist and psych. Good ideas, I will have her get ahold of the adcom. It’s just that so many of the postings here are from people who heard in the promised 2-3weeks, and they are now saying 4-5 for her. I had thought that change of wording was strange!1

Well I’ve been following the site for about a month now and never planned to participate but feel I can pass on some info that might be of help. First my older daughter graduated from Tulane recently, yes she had a high gpa but her sat scores were around 1150, ec were decent but tame compared to others and was accepted early decision. She was told she probably wouldn’t get in from her guidance counselor among others but thankfully didn’t listen and went for it. Needless to say she had an amazing college experience and of course her sister wants to go.

My other daughter (the sister) applied on the earlier side but her transcripts weren’t documented as complete for about 3 weeks. That was a little over two weeks ago and I was told that the wait time for a decision is typically around 4-6 weeks at this point. I’ve also been told from many sources that decisons are random, meaning files are not always reviewed in the order they arrived so if two people applied at the same time it’s not unusal for one person to find out sooner, doesn’t mean anything. Hope this is helpful.

dkloos- same situation as my son (wording) he got an accepted message about 3 weeks after that 12/15 message. I think they are just trying to buy some time as they dig out from under the pile of apps. When my S called his adcom and asked if he really wouldn’t hear until 12/15 he was told “no, you’ll definitely hear before that” and he did. With her stats, she shouldn’t have any problem - good luck, I know how stressful the waiting can be!

newyorkmom - really good info, thanks.

Oh, and congrats on having (hopefully) two Green Waves! Yay.

Applied on 10/29, and my status showed complete on 11/23. Still. Waiting.

Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale.

I realize that some of you are paying very close attention to dates - when your app was submitted, when your status changed, etc., and I hate to complicate matters for you, but the dates are not that important. Tulane is accepting the strongest applicants first. I have seen students go from application to acceptance in 3-4 weeks - they have the highest GPAs and test scores. I see other students who applied earlier and have not heard yet - they may yet be accepted, but they are not in that top tier of GPA/SAT or ACT strength, hence their wait will be a little longer.

I do think it is fine to call and check if you are concerned about missing transcripts, etc. My experience this week is that they are digging out from under and you can get through by phone this week, an improvement from early November. Good luck!

Mostly agree with Rockvillemom, they are bound to process most of the no-brainers quickly, both accept and deny. But I have seen a number of examples of obvious admits have to wait a while, so I think there is some “we just are totally buried” factor. So don’t take a longer wait as meaning you are borderline. As she said, at this point the dates are not that important.

Personally, my wait time was partially influenced by confusion with my file, of which I learned during the course of several telephone conversations with the admissions office… at the beginning of November. Getting through was not a problem.

IMHO, such sweeping generalizations on Rockvillemom’s were slightly uncalled for. And I felt a tinge of negativity toward anyone who is still waiting, which is certainly not what we all need right now in order to remain optimistic.

Well, let’s be clear on this. Rockvillemom is no doubt generally correct, and I said the same in other posts where I knew the student’s stats and they probably were borderline. But let me also repeat that there is not a 1-1 correlation between waittime and probability of admission, since there are also students with clear admit stats that are waiting more than 5 weeks after their file showed complete. Sometimes it is a screwup in the system, as nervoussenior says, and sometimes just volume. So bottom line…

INHALE, EXHALE…INHALE, EXHALE…

fallenchemist-
re: post # 42 and your comment about their being “snowed under”. Did you happen to see that today was “snow day” at Tulane? [Tulane University - Event Details](http://tulane.edu/calendar/event-details.cfm?uid=2265708C-E6F4-B988-21C4E835BBEDBD0A)
Guess they WERE snowed under after all!! Looks like fun!

I think we need to be careful here in distinguishing what’s a fact and an interpretation or assumption motivated by a need to make some kind of sense out of a really stressful time. Maybe the stronger candidates are admitted sooner and maybe they’re not or maybe sometimes that’s true and other times not. Alot of what I’m hearing sounds like guess work so I’m proposing that if anyone has a hypothesis concerning admissions, etc. they back it up with some solid evidence or just state that it is an educated guess or assumption. I am not pointing fingers or anything of that nature but rather trying to think of a way to share ideas without driving each other crazy!

Son’s friend was accepted last week with lowish stats (2.8 GPA, not sure of SATs but son thinks around the 500s for each section). He really wants to go to Tulane and will be going, so maybe he really campaigned for the admit. But I wanted to share because clearly he is not at the top of the heap, yet was already accepted. I’m not sure if he applied SCEA or just EA. My S applied regular EA in September and was accepted about a month ago, I think. His GPA is 3.2 but SATs were high at 1450/2060.

It may just depend on what your particular admissions counselor is doing and when he/she is reading applications.

newyorkmom - appreciate the spirit of what you are saying, and I agree. I can only tell you that between all the posts I read on here, the numerous PM’s I get, and some local students I talk with, I have dozens of cases with which to formulate my “hypotheses”. I also read all the Tulane meeting minutes that I have access to (I am an alum that donates reasonably generously and I have a daughter there) and I stay in touch with everything going on that I can. With 50+ data points, I don’t think it is unreasonable to deduce a pattern. That said, I think I have always been clear to say “I think” and “probably”, etc. I have even stated explicitly that I do not work for Tulane nor do I have an inside connection to admissions. But I also think virtually everyone on here, including the students, know this is not an official site for Tulane or any other school and that nearly by definition, this is all lay opinion/experience/anecdotal incidents/educated guesses/(hmmm, can I think of any other phrases?). I can only finally say that numerous, numerous times there are posts and PMs that confirm that the VAST majority of what is being said along these lines is, indeed, correct. When we find out it isn’t, we have always posted that immediately. I have no dog in this fight (Apologies to Michael Vick).

ReadyToRoll - well, there have to be some people at the tail end of the bell curve I guess. Does seem pretty low. Any other factors that you can discern, like legacy, wealthy family (maybe they are changing the name of a building as we speak), minority, etc?

Don’t feel bad. My daughter received her online acceptance on October 28th and we still are awaiting the official confirmation letter. Called admissions office on November 20th and told there was a snafu that delayed many from receiving their formal acceptance letters. Admissions representative said new letters would go out within 3-5 days and that was 13 days ago–still waiting.

jym - cute.

Still says they’re missing my transcript and counselor form… Is this happening to anyone else? I’m so annoying. But I sent them November 12th!!

On the issue of them accepting the most desirable applicants first, I don’t think that is necessarily true. My daughter is first in her class, high scores, great recommendations, national ECs and she had not heard from Tulane after 5 weeks. Students in her class with much weaker records were getting accepted so I finally called admissions and the person I spoke with told me not to be concerned until 12/15. I mentioned about the others getting accepted and I can’t remember his exact response, but it led me to believe that she should not read anything into the response time because it may vary from admission officer to admission officer. We have not gotten the written letter with scholarship offer, so I guess we will find out then how much Tulane really “wants” her. I know she really likes Tulane.
And real snow is forecast for tomorrow night, so Saturday may be a snow day!
