I don’t recall it saying that you had to mark EA in order to get a quick decision, just use the priority app. Lesson learned for ds2! I just thought I’d report back in case anyone else wants to call to see whether they are in the same boat.

I suppose he should check on the other outstanding priority app he has, but, really, it doesn’t matter, I guess. He’s still got three other apps he hasn’t sent yet, and those schools include his no. 2 and no. 3 choices. Those will be the ones he’s sweating (well, along with his top choice). Though, the sooner we hear from Tulane the sooner we can plan a visit. This is the only college he’s applying to sight unseen and would absolutely require a trip. He’s made second visits to schools 1 and 2 and one visit to everywhere else.

The distinction can be important, because some students may be applying to a single-choice early action plan somewhere else. For example, Stanford early applicants aren’t allowed to receive a decision from any other school before January 1.

Hi lockn - - I believe you that Stanford says that, but how in the world can they control that? I mean, you still have to apply to other schools in case you don’t get into Stanford, and lots of schools have rolling admissions. Also, since many schools have a Jan 1 app deadline, it isn’t like you can wait. Even a Jan 15 app deadline would be risking a lot of snafus. This makes no sense to me.

You could apply to pretty much any school, as long as it isn’t early action/decision to a school that gives decisions before January. There is an exception for rolling admissions and in-state public schools. Of course, they can’t really keep you from applying, but you sign a contract agreeing to follow the rules. Tulane has a similar SCEA plan.

Ah, OK. That makes more sense at least. Although I still don’t see how it harms Stanford if you know a decision from another school earlier rather than later, as long as it isn’t binding. Obviously they couldn’t really stop you anyway. But thanks!

Update with my DS: He wrote to local rep and she wrote back that his file was complete despite what was showing up online. She apologized for how long it was taking and said it would be a few more weeks. DS submitted his around oct. 10, using priority application and ed checked off. So much for getting a quick decision. Right now he checked his online status and it is finally showing it as complete.

As his parent I feel bad because I encouraged him to apply, saying that getting a quick decision as promised in 2 weeks would be encouraging to him and let him know that at least he was going to college. Instead his school took over 3 weeks to submit the form and then Tulane couldn’t locate it for 5 weeks. Seeing everyone else around him get into Tulane who applied well after DS, just discouraged him more and defeated the purpose of a priority application.

I see many frustrated applicants currently on the Tulane site. It appears that Tulane is overwhelmed with the number of applications coming in. This year may very well surpass the record number of last year. I went through the college process last year also, with my older daughter now happily in the honors program at Tulane.
Luckily, my younger daughter did receive a response quickly from Tulane. But today she did receive an email from one of her colleges that her transcript was still missing. Her school will probably have to send another copy. This happens at most colleges, not just Tulane. I do think though that Tulane set themselves up for some of these problems/delays, now that they frequently offer a free/priority application, with a set response time. Maybe Tulane will need to develop a new application processing mechanism, especially if they are looking to maintain/increase the application numbers.
Hang in there everyone, it will all work out! Hopefully many of you will be the new incoming class at Tulane.

S2 checked and was admitted today. We are eagerly awaiting the official letter (for obvious reasons). Hang in there everyone. Now to visit. I personally like the school a lot.

Don’t hold your breath on getting the formal acceptance letter. My daughter was accepted (online) on October 28th and has yet to receive a formal acceptance despite two phone calls to the Admissions Office. They claim a snafu at their end but still waiting. Not a good way to treat a prospective student who also would need to schedule a visit before making a final decision.

Having gone through the admissions process last year with D2, I can say that the Tulane Admissions office is one of the most professional, efficient, and expeditious that we dealt with. I can’t think of any other school that for the most part delivers on such a short turn-around. No way are they purposely mistreating prospective students. As for making final decisions, the deadline is May 1; plenty of time to visit. Destination Tulane events in the spring are excellent.

D is a current freshman. She is is thrilled with the school and so are we. — McLean Parent.

Don’t beat up on the admissions dept. They seem to be overwhelmed with the large nuimber of applications, which is a nice problem to have. If a student has heard by late October that they have been admitted, this is a great thing! Congrats. Final decisions re: college acceptances don’t need to be made in early December, unless a student applied ED somewhere, at which point it is a non-issue. There is plenty of time to visit the schoool. The admitted students weekends and/or honors students weekends are very enjoyable events. You might want to attend one of those, and should likely hear about any award money before then. If not, well, NOLA is a nice place to visit, and Tulane is a great school to see, even if you haven’t gotten the acceptance info in writing. In fact, lots visit before they apply, and/or before they are accepted. So its all good.

Almost certainly not until April, from what I understand, but it might be late January or into February. If you are borderline admit, they might hold off a bit longer. But Tulane’s track record in general is that they get to the RD’s as quickly as they can after Jan 15. Some hear sooner.

Fearless, they told me ds would likely hear in January or before. He applied RD using a priority app. We had assumed he’d hear in a few weeks because that’s how the priority app info was worded. That would have been the case, I guess, if he’d applied EA, but he was in a scholarship competition that prevented him from applying to any school ED or EA.

My application status changed to complete (EA) November 25th … when you do you think I’ll hear back? I visited on the 24th which is why they waited to change it to complete!
