Admission Essays: Come Share and Complain about the most annoying essays ever.

I kinda like my essays actually.

How about Hotchkiss’s short answer prompt: Recently Hotchkiss acquired a 280-acre parcel of farmland adjacent to our main campus. The School is investigating ways to use the land for the benefit of the campus and local communities. What idea or program would you propose for the use of this property?..what a nightmare!
I won’t be able to visit H’kiss so I won’t know how to make use of this land.

sps and choate’s are realllllyyyyyy not fun. Lawrenceville was surprisingly super easy. they did use the ssat though. The last one was really broad so it wasn’t hard.

Lawrenceville was surprisingly super easy

This was the only boarding school that my son applied to. He finished this back in November because that’s basically when he had to finish all his day school applications anyway. If I recall correctly, the Lawrenceville extra essay boiled down to “Tell us something about yourself” even though you actually had to make up a prompting question first.

On the other hand, one of the Lawrenceville parental essays was to “tell us something that about your son or daughter that delights you”. That “delight” sort of caught us off balance. Once you teenagers have teenagers of your own, you’ll understand. :)

Most of the day school essays were basically of the “tell us about yourself” variety couched in slightly different terms. One that was different was “If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?”

Ha L’villegrad, I don’t know how many times over the past few months I have heard myself say, “You know, that particular character of mind does not ‘delight’ me AT ALL!!”

I’m having trouble writing the one for PEA where you have to describe a challenging moment and how you dealt with it. Every time I try to form a sentence, I start choking up and crying. >____________<

I did that exact same essay!! All you have to do is sit down and write one day w/o stopping and then go back and edit it. Pretend like it’s not happening to you. And if worst comes to worst remember that if you don’t do it you have no chance of getting in without an essay.

for HK short answer i think they are a) trying to get suggestions lol and b) trying to see if you have creative idea (?)(maybe?)

“Imagine yourself ten years from now. Who are you? What is your life like? What do you believe in?” How am I supposed to know what I’ll be like 10 years from now?!?!

ooo whats that one for? sounds exiting to me :D

just say what you want to do w/ your life. they want to see if you’re… ambitious or not

yes… but I don’t really know what I want to do :frowning: I’ll figure it out though :)
