Is applying for admission for summer binding?

Do out-of-state applicants get the same additional consideration?

Summer is not binding. PSU has no EA/ED in the traditional sense where you are locked in if accepted. OOS and in state get the same consideration from what I understand. Anyone can apply directly to summer or put summer as an option rather than getting denied admission altogether. In the case of the latter, they will only consider you for summer AFTER it has be determined that you don’t meet the eligibility for fall.

Also, which summer session do new freshmen start?

I believe it’s the second summer session that new freshman start in. It’s July 5th or somewhere around there. They go for 6 weeks, then home for a week, then back up for fall. Keep in mind that summer session freshman change dorms between summer and fall. So you will move in for summer session, completely move out, and move back in for fall to a different dorm.

I actually just looked and summer 2015 session 2 (freshman start if you start in summer) begins June 28, 2015

@jihpsu How selective is the summer session?

@5melissa1234 my understanding is its slightly lower than fall admission. I’ve seen people with 3.1 or 3.2 with higher test scores get in for summer. You can read through last year’s admissions thread and see the profiles of kids that got in.
My daughter has a 3.4UW and 28 ACT and the admissions counselor told her she was competitive for summer and borderline for fall admit into DUS. So we are just hoping she gets into at least summer. Obviously, engineering, business and other competitive majors have higher entrance stats.
