admission? help!

I hope you get it  Are you applying anywhere else?

Hi, I applied to Andover and Exeter, got into both, and will be attending Andover this Fall. My only advice is to not stress about making yourself fit into a formula for the ā€œideal applicant,ā€ because there is no such thing. The schools look for an all-around kid with good grades and good values, plus something that makes them unique. For me, that something extra was athletics; for you it might be dance, I don’t know. Ask yourself how you will contribute to the school, and if you can come up with an answer, you’re set.

okay thanks that’s some of the best advice i have been given PA*. and boarderkid: umm i haven’t decided where im gonna apply cuz i can only apply for my sophomore year not freshman so i haven’t really decided completely.

I was accepted to Exeter with full financial aid. Aid is good at both these schools!!

Edit:

OH, and I’m a new sophomore. If you can’t apply for freshman year, I definitely recommend applying as a sophomore.

I know that I’ll need FA, but I don’t know if I should apply to all the need-based schools saying I need FA. I’m afraid they’ll take one look and reject me! I was thinking that I’ll get FA after I’m admitted or something…What should I do? Apply for FA or not?

well a lot of schools have a need blind policy which means that applying for FA doesn’t affect your admission but i dont think all of them have it…I would need almost full financial aid as well

Do you know which other schools offer need-blind FA? And which schools do or don’t make you pay it back?

These days boarding schools are just giving out right grants because I know exeter does.
It is a bad idea to not tell a school about your FA because they don’t grant you any after you have been accepted, only the people who ask get it.

Right grant?

ā€œthey are giving outright grantsā€ sorry for the confusion.

In response to your other post, I should probably apply for FA anyhow, do you know if Hotchkiss, SPS, Exeter (I’m pretty sure that’s need-based), Choate, Middlesex, Peddie or Lawrenceville are need-blind?

i haven’t really researched those school to much but im positive exeter and andover have it. But most of the school don’t offer student loans so you wont owe any money when you graduate

I know for a fact that Andover and Deerfield are need-blind, but Exeter changed their financial aid to need-based last year.

whats need-based?

Deerfields not ā€œneed-blindā€. If a schools need blind it will be clearly statedo n the FA part of their site. Deerfield just has a lot of random stuff talking around the point just like SPS and others. If a schools need-blind. You usually see that term used somewhere on there FA page through their website.

I wouldn’t worry too much about need blind vs not, I’d just apply for admission and FA wherever you would like to attend, as long as they are schools that give some FA (and don’t they all?). Andover’s need-blind is an important philosophy and practice that they have made a priority to continue even during the economic downturn, but many other schools are very generous with FA, even though they may not be completely need-blind.

Deerfield isn’t need blind? I’ll take a look at their FA section again, though I read on some other threads that Deerfield was need blind.

lemonade is right though, all the schools still give good FA.

True, I just hope that with Deerfield’s over enrollment and having more girls than boys, I would get a good amount of FA.
