So, I’m 3rd out of 670 people at my school with an SAT score of 1480 (Math - 800, Reading and Writing - 680). I was automatically accepted into UT but not into ChemE. Why is that? Do I still have a chance of getting in if someone drops out?
That’s crazy…I’m so sorry. It would be hard to figure that one out. Are you taking Calc?
Were you offered an alternative major? What is your next plan?
Hi! Yes, I’m taking BC Calc and I’m also taking Stats, AP Physics and Engineering…so many math-related courses.
I’m have two options: either going to UH where I’ve been accepted into ChemE or going to UT as undeclared and then taking ChemE courses and declaring a major.
I listed Biomedical Engineering as my second choice but I didn’t get that.
That really just stinks. I could understand if your SAT was like 1380 or something but you have a solid score. Sounds like they may have been looking for 1500 +.
Sounds like University of Houston might be your best bet. I understand transferring into engineering at UT has a very low success rate. Did you apply to other schools?
Hi! I applied to UT Dallas and Texas Tech but I’m leaning towards University of Houston.
If I was you, I would go to UH. Going to UT undeclared is risky b/c UT is becoming way too competitive so the odds are against you in securing a spot into Cockrell considering you’ve already been rejected. It’s unbelievable how cut throat it is at UT and it’s that way by design. I’m a naturally competitive person but I don’t think I’ll be able to survive at UT … it’s just too overwhelming and stressful based on my research.
UH engineering is respected and in a great location (centrally located in Houston). Also UH just successfully completed a $1 billion capital fundraising campaign so I see many big things happening for UH in the near future. Also look into UT Arlington before making your final decision b/c they have one of the most comprehensive engineering programs in the state and provide great merit aid. You may end up really loving what you see there. Good luck!
@maesticwolf
@NuScholar Thank you! Yeah, I was thinking of going to UH because it’s the less risky option.
Tech is also a solid school with good engineering and a more traditional campus if that interests you. Go make lemonade—you will have a great college career I’m sure.
