Scoopie-I would think you will get in/my son got in for Fall2008 OOS/1260SATS/2AP/3.4GPA/no honors classes. The OOS tuition is greatly appreciated by JMU, and they do accept 30% OOS students for the freshman class. Good Luck!

ddotjon - Just curious, was you son accepted with those stats in the Early Action pool of applicants or was he accepted with the regular decisions? I ask because JMU states that it is more difficult to get accepted into the Early Action pool and defer a large number of applicants who are often accepted in the Regular decision pool.

He applied RD and was accepted RD.

Thanks for the support, I wonder if I’ll be deferred to regular decision. If that’s the case, when would I hear?

You would hear that you were deferred to RD the 2nd week in January. RD notifications are sent at the end of March, by April 1st.

I guess this could take a while.

I wonder if he got rejected from JMU because they assumed he was using them as a safety?

I agree with the last comment, but while unintended this gives JMU wonderful publicity. If JMU rejects a kids with 2200+ SAT it might cause the school to be perceived in a better light.

My observation is that perhaps there are other schools on his list that he also should have been accepted so perhaps there was something awry with the application.

this is nuts. if colleges are going to be tougher on admitting applicants, fine. but for the love of god do not discriminate students based on whether they are in-state or out of state. if you think about it, it is unconstitutional lol

It’s not that tough. Some of my classmates have been accepted early decision–they’re decent students (3.6-3.8, 1600-1800 SATs). I think JMU places a greater emphasis on GPAs than on SAT scores.

P.S. getting* :P

Is there a high rate of stds at jmu??
there is a strong boy to girl ratio…is it really noticeable?

pinkperl, I’m just going off what I’ve heard from classmates and former students from my school who go there: I’ve heard that JMU has the most STDs of all campuses. It might be rumor, but I’ve heard it numerous times. As for boys:girls, I’ve been told that it isn’t really in all that noticeable.

I think Radford beat out JMU for STD rates, but fairly recently. And pinkperl, I think there are actually more girls? According to college board, it’s 62% female, 38% male. But 60-40 is not really a noticeably large gap.

Does anyone have any idea when decisions will be posted? I’m dying!
I know that last year they sent them around march 24th.

Although there is no way for me to be sure, I have heard Wednesday.

Jeeze, I’m out of state…

I applied to Clemson, USC and JMU. I was waitlisted at USC, and accepted into the clemson bridge program (go to a technical school for freshman year, then go to clemson).

JMU though is my first choice.

My stats are:

3.8 GPA
1450 SAT cumulative

Grades aren’t the best but I have several things going for me that I listed in my application. I’m in south carolina, and I sure hope that out-of-state gives them something to look at for me.

fun Fact! JMU out of state tuition is the same price as clemson and UofSouth Carolina in state!

I think you all need to stop stressing so much.

Our son got his acceptance letter today.

GPA: 3.4

SAT: 1280

Good community service, football and school leadership. GREAT essay…

We are in NYS and my youngest has finally narrowed down her offers to between GMU and JMU (she has rejected all the less expensive SUNY offers, including Binghamton! So so much for mom’s bank account!). She wants Int’l relations with a view to grad school at Georgetown and a career with the State Dept. GMU has offered her honors program and $27K in annual scholarships; we’ve yet to get JMU’s offer (other than acceptance).

Any thoughts on which is better given her career path and potential for Georgetown grad school? She also wants a school with great spirit (her big brother goes to Syracuse and boy do they have spirit, but she rejected their offer already). Both GMU and JMU seem to be lovely schools but each has pros/cons. GMU will give her internship opportunities year round, JMU gave us a very nurturing vibe and she’s a very easy going personality.

WilPowerMom - JMU all the way. It’s a higher ranked school, so even though it’s a little farther from DC, it’ll look better as long as she continues to do well. And Harrisonburg is not that far out of the way. JMU also has more of a “school spirit” vibe. GMU is largely a commuter school, so you don’t get the same experience.

i believe it. he only has a 3.4 gpa… jmu doesnt really look at extracurriculars that much. they want a solid gpa. hes going up against kids who are easily getting a 3.8, 3.9, and 4.0 gpa ALL 4 YEARS of high school in northern virginia.
