Admission Notification

I applied to Tulane using the priority application on September 1st. It said that they would give me a quick admission decision. All of my materials have been sent in as well. When would I expect an admission notification and would it be through email, mail, or?

@jnc127

Wow, you might win the prize for first complete app in! If it is complete. Remember, just because you asked your school to send all your materials doesn’t mean they have yet, unless you for a fact they have, including the statement from the GC. And official transmission of your test scores takes a little time unless you gave Tulane as a destination when you took the SAT or ACT.

But before I answer the rest of your question, did you apply EA or ED?

On my applicant status portal it says they have received everything…EA

OK, great. If you are going to be accepted, you will probably hear back mid-October. Could be sooner, could be a bit later. All the admissions people are traveling, giving the Tulane Talk in various cities and visiting schools. You will first be notified via the portal, then by snail mail. They have not traditionally done email for acceptances. Also, the portal only tells you if you are in, not if you got a merit scholarship. That only comes in the snail mail.

If your admission is more borderline, you might not hear until the Dec.15 deadline. @jnc127

Traditionally students have received their admission very quickly when applying EA, however this year, with the ability to apply ED I wonder if the EAs will have to wait until closer to the deadline.

I don’t think so, but I suppose it might depend on how heavy the ED response is. Barring some unusually heavy amount of ED, I think it will be business as usual, as it applies to Tulane. So I suppose business as not so usual, in a great way.

DS sent his application in through the Common App last night (first one in!!!). He had a piece of paper that talked about a priority application, but since he did it through the Common App, will that be noted, or does it get lost in the shuffle of Common Apps?

I meant, it was the first one that he sent in, not the first person to send one into Tulane :slight_smile:

I will let you in on what I think is a dirty little secret, @Crusoemom but Shhhh!! I think if you apply EA or ED, the priority app is just a marketing thing to get a student’s attention. EA and ED get the same attention no matter which application method is used, I am 99% sure.

Whew! That makes me feel better. Now he just has to convince his guidance counselor to send in the school’s paperwork ASAP so his application will be complete.

@Crusoemom

Which way did he apply. EA?

Also, I just saw on your thread from April that he got a 35 on the ACT. Congrats!! I don’t need to tell you that is really fantastic. Assuming his GPA and course rigor is similarly excellent, he should definitely apply for the DHS and the Paul Tulane full tuition/fees awards. His chances would be excellent, I would think, and (again depending on GPA and rigor) he would be in the running for the Stamps, which is full ride.
