Hi everyone! I’m currently a senior student in Canada. I am supposed to be a gr.11 student, but I skipped grade 11. I am a n international student, I almost have everything universities required. I had my IELTS done in November last year, and I got 7.5. Also, I have three AP that I took in gr.10. My gr.10 average was about 94%, and this year( gr.11 and gr.12) I am getting about 92% average. There is only one problem: I don’t have English 12 right now. I applied to U of T and McGill. I know that English 12 is in the requirements, but I am going to take it during the summer school. I don’t know if that will work. Is there a chance that I can get in?
No, that won’t work. They’ll deny you by June. If you’re going to school in Ontario, you won’t be able to graduate high school until you have grade 12 English. Will you have sufficient credits to graduate? Can you do a victory lap instead and reapply next year?
I’m in BC. I do have enough credits to graduate (like 20 credits more). I saw somewhere that if I reach the English facility, they would not count English 12, instead they would focus on six grade 12 courses. I will be graduating before September, not in June though. So I’m kind of like stuck in the middle. I apply this year because I want to catch up with my bf who is one year older than me, and he already got in U of T. If I really get rejected by both of them, I will probably go to U.S. universities next year. I want to give a shot if there is only 0.1% possibility that I will get in.
Both U of T and McGill require grade 12 English if you graduate from a Canadian high school. Grade 12 French can be substituted at McGill if you attend a high school that teaches in French.
Canadian schools are generally very responsive in answering questions. You can find the contact info for the admissions departments on their websites. It would be better to find out now rather than wait several months. You may not even get an admissions decision from U of T or McGillbefore May 1, when US schools require a decision.
Thank you!! I think I am going to find out some time. It is okay for me to wait till May. I submitted all the documents in January, and it said it would only take 6-8 weeks to process. I haven’t taken SAT yet, so I didn’t apply for the U.S. universities.
@theundercity But if you haven’t even applied to U.S. schools or written the SAT, then I’m not understanding why you indicate that you’d choose those, given that you also say that you want to join your b/f at U of T. You wouldn’t be able to start until Sept. 2019, which would be the same result if you reapply to U of T after you finish Gr 12 English.
My bf is in Gr. 12. I don’t want to take a gap year and I don’t want a long distance relationship. I just love ivies, I’ll then apply if I get rejected. And that’s it. @alwaysamom
