Admission Requirements (coursework)

I'm a junior biophysics major and I'm not sure if I have taken the necessary courses to apply to med school.

I used AP credits for general chemistry, general physics, and calculus I/II.

I took Organic I/II (semester lab).
2 Upper level physics classes (semester lab)
Biochemistry (semester lab)
Biophysical chemistry
Research problems in biophysics (semester)
Molecular biophysics laboratory (semester)
Cell biology
Cellular and molecular physiology
Bioinformatics
Build-a-genome (biology course)
Calculus III/differential equations/linear algebra
2 semesters English/writing

I think I'm good with biology, physics, math, and english; however, I was concerned with chemistry. Can I use my biochem lab course as a chem course? Can the lab also be a chem lab (even though the stuff we did was much more closely related to bio)? Should I take another chem course just to make sure I'm alright?

Thanks

I think that since you have taken upper level bio classes you should be fine. Did they have labs to go with them? Also, since you are a junior, you should be planning to take the MCAT this spring. Have you been volunteering and shadowing doctors and playing prominent roles in your ECs?

Ok it looks like my bio is good then, thanks. What about my chem? I have great EC's and my GPA is good. I've done a lot of research and I hope to be published by next semester. I was planning on taking the MCAT for the first time this spring, shadow doctors this summer, and take a year off doing something medically-related (I want to work at a clinic in another country preferably) before medical school. Does this seem like a reasonable plan?

Get a copy of the MSAR (Medical School Admission Requirements -- $22.50 at Amazon) and it will give you the academic requirements for every US medical school.

The MSAR does not give all the data you need re: use of AP courses. Other than that, it is a fine resource.
