Hi, I’m a senior and I was accepted to UT Austin, UIUC, and University of Wisconsin.
I have been receiving As and Bs for last three years, but because of my family crises (yes, it was more than one),
my grade dropped a lot; I ended up with 4 Cs in Calculus AB, AP Psychology, AP Microeconomics, and physics. I sent the letter to explain this grade drop and my counselor also wrote an additional note when she sent mid-year report.
Is 4 Cs in senior year will get my admission rescinded and lower my acceptance chance to other private colleges (which i applied as regular admission) ?
I highly doubt you will get rescinded since you have a valid reason and your counselor verified that reason. As for your chances at the private schools, it will probably depend how competitive the schools are. I would hope that admissions officers could see past one semester of grades, but it’s hard to say that they will given that senior grades show your most recent academic performance. Especially if there are strong application pools with other similar applicants who don’t have the dip in grades. I’m crossing my fingers for you and hope everything works out!
You can’t already be done for the year right? So isn’t there hope to pick some grades up. I doubt your offers will be rescinded but why are you discussing this as if the year is over?
Thank you for all of your replies. I was just paranoid about my admission tho. Again, thank you
Maybe you or your counselor could send a letter to the colleges you applied to explaining your grades as a result of the family crises?
Do the admission offers specify any level of senior year academic performance that you need to meet?
I know what it’s like to get super freaked about things like this. Oddly enough things almost always turn out well. As long as you stay focused on achieving your goals you’ll be fine.
how are grades looking this semester? as lost said above, if you finish strong should be no big deal, at least with the ones you’ve already been accepted to. they’ll look at the full year’s grades before making a decision like that.
I recommend trying very hard to pick those grades up. There’s a chance you will be rescinded by some of those schools. As for your extenuating family circumstances, well, it’s impossible to predict how colleges will interpret or evaluate them without knowing more information, and even then, we could only guess. (Of course there are probably many excellent reasons not to share them here on CC!)
Iz57c4, how strong should I finish the semester? like straight As?
for UT, you should make sure that whatever happens you stay in the top 8% or whatever the ranking auto-admit threshold is now (I think it’s 8% this year rather than 7%). I would think that all these schools are very numbers driven, but I’m not familiar with them specifically. Check with your GC to see.
If you’re not a TX resident, that wouldn’t matter though. Follow marvin’s advice and get the best grades possible.
