Admission to San Francisco State University

Hello! Well, classic scenario here: I'm a community college student, living in California but am not in a local county for SFSU, and I want to know if you think of my chances of being accepted to SFSU! I applied a few days ago for Fall 2012. First off, I have a 2.63 GPA (community college GPA) and I am an aspiring English major. (yay for not having a non-impacted major! I'll eventually be heading into law or English education) I am an African American (yay minority status? lol) Also, since I'm a transfer student from a community college, I hear SAT/ACT scores hardly matter at all... I really have high hopes about this school. Yes, I know how expensive it is. Yes, I know that they're increasing tuition and yes I know they're cutting classes as the same time. Thanks for all your tangent tips but lets stick to the subject: think I'll get in?

SFSU impaction information is here:
[Impacted Programs - How to Apply - Future Students - San Francisco State University](http://www.sfsu.edu/future/apply/impacted.html)

You will want to read the information here:
[CSUMentor - Plan for College - Transfer Students - Transfer Applicant Overview and Definitions](<a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>http://www.csumentor.edu/planning/transfer/)
[Transfer - How to Apply - Future Students - San Francisco State University](http://www.sfsu.edu/future/apply/transfer.html#eligible)

Unlike SJSU, SFSU does not list what threshold GPAs transfer students needed in each major in the previous admissions cycles.

It may be hard to get into a top law school with two years of a 2.63 GPA, even if you get a 4.00 GPA the remaining two years. (Good law jobs tend to highly favor graduates of prestigious law schools.)

My cousin goes to San francisco state and he loves the school

I already got in but with a 3.5 and living in San Francisco. My friend on the other hand w/ a lower GPA but lives in SF got in faster than I did. They take community college as priority thought so don’t worry I’m 95% sure you will get in. comes in a big envelope! good lucky ducky

If any future hopefuls are reading, I checked my application status today and it says I’m admitted! I’m an upper division CC student in the San Diego area and have a 2.62 GPA. I applied as an English major (prep for teaching).

I did poorly in school my first few years in CC because I worked full time and honestly, I just wasn’t mature enough to realize how important school was (I didn’t go to classes, didn’t turn in a lot of assignments, forgot to drop classes which resulted in Fs, etc.)

However, for the past year, I’ve worked hard to bring my grades up and although my overall GPA is still low, my transcripts show that I’ve been taking school more seriously. My GPA for all my English classes is a 3.5 now.

It is never too late to get your s%&# together and go to college. There’s always hope!
