About two months ago I recieved a letter from my school telling me that because I am a Californian and in the top 4% of my highschool I am eligible for consideration for a guaranteed spot in one of the UC Universities. I have unsuccessfully tried doing some research on the opportunity, and I was wondering if any of the older California students could tell me more about this? Particularly, when do students recieve the final word on whether they have recieved this guaranteed spot based solely on academic achievement?

Get in touch with your counselor as well..

just sign the paper
then schools will send u letters guaranteeing admission
uci sent me a lettler last year guaranteeing me a spot, ucsb and ucm also guaranteed elc students
its worth the signature and a wonderful program for hardworking students to worry less

the programs called elc. basically it guarantees u a spot in at least one UC but people who have it have a much higher chance of getting into good ucs as well.

Thank you very much.
One more aspect of college admissions demystified...

In the past, students (at least in southern california) were guaranteed admissions into UCI when they received that letter (also known as ELC as hcex22 pointed out)
