I read a couple threads from last year where a lot of people said that BC sends out rejections and deferrals first and that those who receive their letters last are those who are accepted.

Does anyone know the truth to that? Was that just a coincidence last year, or is that a principle BC admissions follow?

It happened this year for EA; those who were deferred/rejected received emails of that decision on December 7. Those who were accepted were notified around December 23.

My friend who got in RD last year said he heard around this time last year and that it was the first school he heard back from so I don’t think it works like that.

I could be wrong but I think this year for EA only the deferred received this news via e-mail. Both accepted and rejected found out via snail mail.

For EA this year, I think only deferred people received an email notifying them. I believe rejected people got regular letters. BC said afterwards that “more deferrals were coming” so people wouldn’t think they’d been accepted after the initial deferrals went out, but whether that was true or not, I’m not sure.

That was true for EA. Deferred applicants received an email with a PDF to the letter. They were also sent a letter in the mail. Rejected and accepted applicants received only a letter in the mail. However, all letters (regardless of whether you are accepted, waitlisted, or rejected) are sent out at the same time for RD. Accepted students may see a change in the Agora portal, but I’m not sure that theory holds true for everyone since some accepted students received letters in the mail before seeing changes in Agora.
