I noticed that you can check your admissions decision on the D if you are really anxious to do so. What actually shows up when you decide to check your decison on "The D"? Just one word? A whole letter?

The whole letter will show up, the same exact letter you will get in the mail.

Yeah and they tell you when you can do so, its only like a day or so (not even if you live in NC) before you get the actual package/letter.

ahhh i don't even want to think about it. At least it's better than getting a big red REJECTED. I would just die.

No, no, colleges are more sly than that.

Dear Pongo,

Every year, Duke receives thousands of applications from extraordinary students around the globe and can only admit a small fraction of qualified applicants. Our admissions department prides itself in handpicking the most talented students with special achievements to fill the next class of incoming Duke freshman. Unfortunately, Duke cannot accept every talented individual, and every year must turn down admission to thousands of applicants. You were one of them.

Best wishes,

The Adcom

Honestly, if you start reading, and the first word of the letter body isn't "Congratulations", you should just run away and cry. You'll only become panicked as you read further, trying to decipher any meaning.

It seems like it'd almost hurt more to get a letter like that than one that just says "no." I liked Princeton's old admission letter which consisted of a huge "YES!" taking up half the page and then a paragraph below. That's BA.

Does Duke ever stamp a big "congratulations" on the cover letter if you were accepted?

they totally should
