Admissions Decisions Class of 2020

My son’s app was complete sometime between 10/29 and 11/1.

2060 (1450 CR + M) SAT
31 ACT
3.18 UW/4.1 W GPA
All Honors plus 5 AP
Our school doesn’t rank
OOS

I GOT INNNNNNN!

Just Got In!!!

29 ACT
3.8 GPA
In-State Applicant for Political Science

Still rolling out?

UGH, my D still in evaluation. In state, 33 ACT, 3.69 GPA, school doesn’t rank but very competitive and she is not in top 10-20%. Hope we find out soon!

Deffered today. :frowning:
29 ACT
3.58 cumulative GPA 4.2 this semester (Weighted)
Six AP classes total
Lots of extracurriculars
School doesn’t report rank, and it’s highly competitive. My counselor guessed I’m at least in top 30%.
Applied 31 October, Art major

From NY. My son deferred today from Engineering Program. to hear back by end of March. He had an ACT 28 and 3.5 GPA with 4 years of AP and Honors. Don’t give up hope!

@Rams80 I just got my letter about the pre major program today. I’m glad to know that it was a mistake. I will be emailing them too to verify.

Is the order they send out admissions decisions in random or does it have to do with which applicants re favored, etc? Does finding out earlier mean you are more likely to get scholarships and finding out later mean you are less likely to get them?

@LovePeanutButter I’m not seeing any kind of pattern. There were borderline candidates who were admitted in the first round while there are some kids with scores way above the average who haven’t heard back.

Haven’t heard back yet but just wondering what you guys think.

SAT 1910 (740 M, 550 CR, 620 W)
GPA 3.85UW 5.41W (out of 6)
Class rank 56 out of 490
Very competitive school
School: Fischer School of business
Major: Finance
Out of state (New Jersey)

This is my top school choice and getting a little worried at this point. Do you guys think I’ll get in?

I think you have a very strong chance of getting in, it helps if you have a strong essay, you show real interest in the school and have good extracurriculars

Can anyone chance me?? It would be really appreciated!!
2170 on sat (CR+M = 1400)
GPA : not sure but everything is in A range from freshman to junior yr (last yr : 2 APs 2 honors 2 reg)
Essay : good Rec : really good (according to my college advisor)
Major : computer science
International student
Weak : I transferred quite often (I went three different high school, but my college advisor said that she explained quite thoroughly at her rec paper) and my first marking period grade of senior yr is not quite good… ( 2 A 2 B+ 1B 1C+) (3 APs and 1 honor)
EC is okay but not impressive… (Tech, Theater, Club, internship related with cs… that’s it…)

Thank you!!

@greekyogurtking your SAT score is pretty good, so that’s a plus! However, without knowing your class rank or even simply your GPA it’s very hard to judge. People with high test scores got rejected or deferred due to a less stellar GPA and/or rank. Hopefully your extra curricular activities are adequate to them! Only a few isn’t ideal but an internship is pretty impressive so that should help! I do think you have a good chance but if your GPA or rank happens to be lower than average that could harm your chances, so without knowing that information, I don’t want to mislead you. Best of luck though

Could someone explain to me what makes a high school to be considered competitive and what makes a high school to be considered not as competitive/average? How do college admissions take these types of high schools into consideration when making decision on who to accept? What are the advantages of going to one type and not the other?

@kingx16 My friend goes to a competitive high school. Her gpa is 3.896 and she’s ranked 107th out of 500 students. Most of the top 200 - 300 kids take AP classes and/or dual enrollment classes.

Colleges know the competitiveness based on your high gpa and a low class rank so they may disregard wanting to get a class with students mainly in the top 10% with that particular student.

Out-of-state, 2240SAT, 34ACT, 3.92GPA, still haven’t heard anything…

Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected:

General Comments: I’m definitely happy to have gotten in here. I mostly applied to private schools, but I made sure to have a more affordable option (pending the National Buckeye Scholarship) in case I didn’t get merit aid at other schools. The campus and school impressed me when I visited last spring, as it seems like the resources available to the school allow it to provide things that others can’t. So far I’ve gotten into Tulane & Southern Methodist Univ, while I await decisions from Villanova, Boston University, and NYU.

I just got accepted, but how do I know if I got into the Honors College?

@saberchild The Honors Program sends out decisions later on. I would assume they would begin maybe at the end of this month but definitely sometime in January.
