@adlgel Last year they ran out of scholarship money but since they raised the minimum requirements this year, everyone should get it.
@coleosu OSU considers course rigor and quality of the preparatory program very important. It also considers competitiveness of the high school. I bet @STEMGuy2323 took mostly honors and AP courses (the most rigorous courses offered) which would account for “only” a 3.95 weighted gpa. Also, even though a high school may not provide a class rank, the regional admissions counselor has a very good idea what gpa would constitute top decile, or top quarter of the high school class. So if @STEMGuy2323 was one at one of the most competitive high schools, he probably would be considered in at least the top quarter and most likely the top ten percent of his class even without the official class ranking.
@nasteeR Unless you work in OSU admissions/financial aid and know this for sure I wouldn’t post so definitively. OSU’s website still clearly states that "Ohio State’s merit-based scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis and are not guaranteed. " OSU is getting a lot of highly qualified applicants and even though they raised the criteria they still may not have enough to go around. I just hate for people to count on this scholarship and then have it not come through.
Good point @adlgel
One thing is for sure, if you are below any of the stated criteria for National Buckeye, you will NOT get the award.
I know because I asked.
Where did you see that OSU is planning to take fewer undergrads this year?
They have been slow in posting results, which I think is because of a transition in the leadership of admission office.
With Kasich’s budget recommending tuition freeze for 2 years, I think OSU will want more students, and not fewer students.
@trackmbe3 My school is involved with the IB program. I took 9 Pre-IB courses total in 9th and 10th grade, and in 11th and 12th, I took 7 IB courses (Year 1 of the courses I chose was in 11th grade, and Year 2 was in 12th). The thing is this: so many people at my school have 4.0+ GPAs, that mine looks a little weak in comparison (bad 10th grade year on my part). I just compensate with a higher than average ACT, I guess.
Where do u check in the portal for the decision? and btw do u receive an email indicating that the application has been updated or something?
I got deferred. Do they still do that rolling notification policy for deferred applicants?
^^
Afternoon… D just got a postcard in the mail saying to keep an eye on her buckeye mail for her financial aid package Anyone else get this?
We got the postcard last week.
We also received postcard few days ago.
My Daughter just Received National Buckeye and Provost Scholarships today in snail mail. OOS Illinois for College of Engineering. Still waiting on Honors. Good Luck to all.
Oh good to know that they are moving onto the next round. Thanks @Goforitkids!
I was accepted about a month ago into OSU. female from New Jersey! I also found out that I recieved the Morill Prominence Scholarship (full tuition) !!! so excited and blessed. When I tell you guys, the criteria is deeper than just numbers! I have a 3.6 GPA and a 1080/1600 SAT (not amazing right or CC material) Seems impossible right?.. nope! someone must have read my essay and really been moved. (I wrote my essay about being mixed with latin/black and basically how it’s affected my life and propelled me to be an excellent student/young entrepreneur) … I applied to so many schools and everything seemed hopeless because it felt as if all my hard work in high school didn’t pay off! I wasn’t getting sufficient scholarships, at risk for taking out crazy loans, and I was even getting rejections
crazy loans, and I was even getting rejections
and I was even getting rejections
until the unexepected happened & I saw that scholarship email! But my message to ANY future students applying to any big schools/scholarships … DO NOT LOSE FAITH and stop obsessing over ‘college confidential’ academic stats and what everyone THINKS THEY KNOW is “qualified”! Do your very best and you will be rewarded! You will miss EVERY shot you don’t take! btw: To my future OSU classmates, i’ll be accepting the travel grant and visiting for GoBuckeye Day. I will be a future business major in the fisher school of business (AMAZING) but my first semester I will be in the Exploration management program.
Wow!! simbuh that’s fantastic!! Congratulations!!!
@Buck17 thank you!!
