@HollyW00d I just spoke to admissions today and they stated all merit scholarships won’t be distributed until the end of March.
@Mittens0321 @HollyW00d I posted awhile back that I was, also, told that merit would be out by the end of March, too. My S is DA into Fisher and got notice at the end of February that he is in a Scholars program but no notice of any merit, yet.
@BreakfastClub1 I am in the same position you are. DA into Fisher and got into Scholars but no merit. When I called Admissions, they said all merit decisions were released by the end of February.
@Mittens0321 It seems that different people say different things. Maybe I should read between the lines, and it could just be that they were speaking specifically about my son award status. I hope for those still waiting there is some positive news coming your way.
@H0llyw00d I’ve emailed the admissions office, and gotten two different responses also. This information should be consistent, and this process seems poorly managed.
They gave my D two different responses regarding Nursing as well. One enrollment services officer gave an email response stating she was definitely directly admitted into Nursing program. However, the official letter said it was only pre-Nursing and she’d have to apply later as a freshman to see if she gets into the program. I understand that programs and policies change but clear training and communication should accompany the changes.
@realOG I’m hoping the mystery will be solved within the next two weeks so we can close this chapter and move on.
@Banker1 That doesn’t sound like a policy that should change all that much. It sounds like Admissions owes you an explanation and the real deal. Wishing you luck!
@Banker1 My son was admitted into Pre-nursing. From the beginning we were told that all freshman who are admitted to Pre-nursing(you have to have a certain act score to be admitted to Pre-nursing) have to apply in their freshman year to the Nursing program. We were also told this when we went to the admitted student day-Buckeye Bound, on March 3rd. I don’t think any freshman are directly admitted to the Nursing program.
Has anyone received information regarding housing? I read it comes out Mid-March based on when you paid you acceptance fee and I’d think that the 14th (today) is mid-March
@Banker1 Is your daughter a scholars or honors recipient? A little after my acceptance I received a letter, probably the same as hers, stating I was pre-health&rehab sciences. What it did not say is that because I was also accepted to a scholars program, I go directly into my major. I went to visit Ohio State and talked to an advisor for my major who confirmed I’ll be directly admitted because of scholars.
If your daughter is also in honors/scholars, I’d assume that letter is just a general “hey, you were admitted and we see what major you want to do” and that it’s not specifically for scholars and honors students (who are directly admitted into their majors).
In that case, maybe a general letter is easier for tOSU to mail out than having specific letters that leave out the “pre” major part for H/S. But who knows!
@oreo32 Shortly after my D received her acceptance to OSU she emailed admissions to inquire about direct entry. we had read somewhere that Nursing applicants who are also accepted to Honors are directly admitted. And we hadn’t received any decisions about Honors. The reply came back that she is definitely directly admitted and we were relieved and assumed she must have been accepted to Honors.
Then a generic pre-Nursing letter came like you suggested and now we don’t know. We still haven’t received any decision about Honors. At any rate she got a nice merit scholarship at OSU but I don’t think she will attend if she isn’t admitted directly for Nursing.
Apparently the school has changed its policy over the years regarding direct entry for Nursing. She is signed up for the Buckeye bound visit in a few days so she will finally get clarity we hope.
@Banker1 Not sure about how Nursing vs Pre Nursing works since my daughter is not a Nursing major. The following link might also help others to understand the current statistics for admission vs last year
http://oesar.osu.edu/pdf/admissions/NFYSxPlan.pdf I
If you scroll down towards to bottom, you will see that OSU categorizes freshmen admissions into the Nursing department as Pre Nursing. It seems that more kids were admitted this year vs last year.
For those of you who are into stats and such, there are a lot of interesting numbers here. For example, through the 12 of March of this year, OSU admitted a total of 22,717 students out of 52,530 applications. Last year through today, they admitted 19.743 out of 52,385 total applications. There were a total of 22,938 students admitted last year.
It seems that last year, they accepted about 3000 more kids from the middle of March to May 1. They are already there this year. At this point, they will probably wait to see how many of the accepted students end up committing to the University before they accept many more… I am not an expert, but OSU has been trying to be more and more competitive with their acceptances. So they might end up accepted a fewer more this year than last year in order to achieve that goal…
Has anyone received information on orientation?
@noggys I still haven’t heard anything regarding orientation or housing and I feel as if I paid my fee fairly early, but who knows. Are they done sending out acceptances? Maybe that’s when they begin sending out orientation and housing info.
Son is still waiting for his admission decision. He was deferred on 1/26.
@StrGzrMaryland same situation here. my portal says a decision will arrive by the end of march, so I am hopeful that will be the case.
Will any decisions be released today?
While I have not received orientation information, I just received an email from the Program Coordinator of my Scholars program in which she stated “Orientation information is just now starting to be sent out to students”. I was accepted in the second round of EA and paid my fee shortly after that, so hopefully info will come by the end of next week.
Like Oreo32 said, the following was in an email just received from my sons scholars program about orientation “Speaking of orientation, incoming students attend orientation based on your major. You will be offered a selection of dates, and you then register for the date that best fits your schedule. Orientation information is just now starting to be sent out to students (it is sent to students based on when they officially accepted OSU/paid the university acceptance fee). So, if you just accepted OSU, it may be a few weeks before you receive your orientation information.” The Mount Scholars students go in 3 days earlier (8/15).
Still waiting - no decision yet.
