@bucks1 don’t give up. Your credentials are very good. Our school counselor said there were many excellent students from our high school deferred last year because the applicant pool is getting more talented each year. I personally know good students who went to a branch campus then transferred in successfully onto main campus their sophomore year. Also have a friend whose daughter was finally accepted in mid May after she had made plans elsewhere.
@equationlover thanks for the advice! I’ll be sure to email admissions
@TayMarie actually the more I think about it, you should call admissions. Today is Monday so they should (?) be open? I’m not sure since it’s MLK day, but I’d call because if decisions are supposed to come out on Friday, you don’t want to wait for a response.
You aren’t able to be an RA as a freshman, it’s sophomores and up. It’s a very competitive process. Most would recommend getting a job as an OA as a freshman (working the front desk of a residence hall). That gets your name in the Res Life system as an employee and you get to know RMs and HDs. OA pay is minimal to start and you’re able to work up to 28 hours per week as a student.
Your shift consists of accepting packages, checking out supplies and watching the front door. During quieter hours, you are able to study and do school work at the desk. It’s a good deal and they hire tons of them! You have to live on campus to be an OA.
@bucks724 Thanks! I probably will commit to OSU at this point, I’m still worried re: finances though. I’m applying to as many scholarships as I can.
You seem to know a lot. Do you have a son/daughter @ tOSU?
Are they sending out decisions everyday now? I know some people who found out yesterday, and then saw on page 92, the person who found out today.
Yet I am still under evaluation :-<
I see on the portal that we have to submit a final transcript report to tOSU, but does anyone know if we need to send in mid-year reports?
@sescollegeconf They don’t require mid year transcripts. Virtually every big 10 school doesn’t have time for that.
@littledrose maybe they found out via email and not the portal?
so mine is still under evaluation, how long do y’all think it’ll take till they make a decision?
WIll a wave come out this Friday?
@bucks1 Yes, I do. I was deferred in 2017. I got deferred in January and then admitted in late Spring. They deferred at least a couple of thousand of us, then we were waitlisted and admitted in May. I hung in there until then, OSU was my first choice and I am still glad I waited, although nerve wrecking.
@equationlover - I do. I also graduated from there and have lots of friends who work there. My daughter goes to school and works on campus as well.
@TayMarie here’s what the OSU Admissions Office says on their website regarding regional campuses for Ohio grads who aren’t admitted to Main campus:
“Options for Ohio Residents: While you are not admitted to the Columbus campus, you have a great alternative: to begin your Ohio State degree at one of Ohio State’s regional campuses (if you didn’t choose an alternate campus when you applied, you’ll be automatically admitted to one). Or, you may apply again later as a transfer student.”
But, I would try calling the Admissions office to see if you can still select one yourself. My oldest (currently a sophomore at OSU) has a very good friend who did her 1st year at a regional campus and transferred to main campus this past fall. That is also what my youngest was going to do if she wouldn’t have just gotten onto main campus.
Wait if we are deferred we might not hear until may? May 1 is decision day. oh god.
@littledrose
No, deferre doubts you into the RD pool. RD decisions come out by March 30th.
If you’re waitlisted, then that’s another story. Could be any time, or never.
Equally as frustrating is their decision making process on scholarships. My son got into OSU last year in the first round of acceptances (which WAS his first choice at the time), got into the Business school and the Scholars program, but unfortunately did not receive the Buckeye scholarship. He was well above their minimum requirements and other students from his HS and surrounding HS’s with lower grades, fewer extracurriculars and less rigorous of a schedule received the scholarship. He applied to 13 schools, got into all 13, and all of the schools that are known to offer money gave him merit money. Not feeling the love from OSU he decided on another University and is thriving!
@oj2018 Our local Admissions Rep said that visits are not considered during the decision-making process (but that was last year - my son is a Freshman at another University but was interested in OSU).
@artsyg Can you answer?
What dorm did you wind up in?
When did you go to orientation?
Thanks
