@BuckAlum1 Your son applied CSE? Yes I’ve seen a lot of CSE admits on here, I think that is largely because it’s a hot field right now. I am a CSE major as well.
FYE = first year engineering program all engineering aspiring majors are required to take. Engineering pre-majors cannot declare their major of engineering until second year.
Also, the reason why the admit rate seems low for pre-engineering majors is because engineering direct admit (ie. getting into the college of engineering for first year) is competitive. If you look at the OSU website, the ACT ranges for direct admits are 29-33, they also look at class rank, GPA, courses you took in STEM, ECT. Anything below that would probably put you in exploration, although they say there isn’t a hard cut off. And I think that the huge spike in CSE enrollment is not reflective of more staff teaching CSE - I think they truly do use general admissions first, and then look at direct admit to the FYE. People also decide they want to major in a different engineering major after first year, hence part of the purpose of the FYE sequence.
Also, remember. OSU is a BIG school. Their engineering department can handle quite a handful of students. And engineering is hard (especially at OSU, which has an amazing program) - a lot of people will give up and change majors. They don’t expect everyone to graduate in engineering who they direct admit.
@equationlover Nope not CSE, In fact I should have had em apply to engineering! They admitted the most by percentage compared to other majors, but they weed out the majority of their pre-eng admits. As I said, my kid like his parents and siblings is scarlet and grey, he is going to OSU. Just would prefer to start in Columbus. We will see!
I need some advice/help!! I’m still one of the many of us that are still in evaluation and upon looking at some of the links that were just shared in the thread I realized I picked the wrong major. I was under the impression that there was one health sciences program major when actually there’s a health sciences program major and a health and rehabilitation sciences major. I have no idea what the difference between them is. I wanted to apply for the health sciences program major but picked the other and since looking at the stats from the links it seems I have a better luck in getting in by picking the other major! So I have no idea what I should do with the next wave coming out Friday!! Any help is greatly appreciated!!
I find it strange that OSU would open housing deposits (and thus their ‘place in line’) prior to accepting all EA applicants, which, according to admissions, is completely random. They should accept all EA applicants and then open Housing to be fair to all EA students.
on this thread I’ve only seen oos students mention National Buckeye with Maximus merit scholarships awarded - curious if any NB with Provost or Trustee merit offers have been received? Looks like last year most weren’t notified until mid Feb. -wondering if it’s same for this year.
I’ve been wondering the same thing! My daughter was admitted in November and still hoping for that scholarship, she will be attending from MO. My son who is in his second year was also admitted in November and received his NBS and Trustee scholarship in Feb. His letter was dated Feb 12th.
I have also heard that if you get denied, you can re-apply for the summer semester starting before Fall 19. They dont have to count these students grades in to the class standings and so they dont water them down and you are much more likely to get accepted. Anyone know if there is any truth to this? Obviously you lose your summer between HS and Freshman year but if you want to be a Buckeye??
@buckeyemom17 and @MD2019crab it’s so hard - you want to get excited but can’t. He was accepted 1st wave and then received Honors acceptance but can’t truly commit to going until we know if we can afford it.
I appreciate your feedback - it does put my mind at ease knowing others are waiting too.
I’m kinda confused because someone that I know was a regular decision applicant (they applied in November) and they already heard back from Ohio State, yet many of us who are early action applicants still haven’t gotten our decision. Have they already started to look at regular decision students or something?
I applied EA under an agricultural major back in October and am STILL waiting to hear back as well. I have a 4.3 GPA but only a 27 ACT so I am super nervous, although I have many sports, extracurriculars, service hours, and leadership activities. I called their admissions office just now and really pried at them asking if there’s another wave of admissions tomorrow and they said they cannot confirm or deny that, and that we would know by the end of January. Not very helpful, I know, but I’m still hoping for tomorrow!
My D was one who was admitted in the first wave but is not attending- she was admitted around the same time to Pitt and Penn State. Financially, OSU and the others ended up making no sense for us as a low-income family. She was easily accepted but not in range for scholarships. She’ll be attending a small LAC with her full financial need met. OSU has a great program in her field, but her major isn’t one where loans make sense.
@moffittm I called the admissions office too and they said the exact same thing to me as well. I have very similar stats to you, hoping we hear good news this Friday!
@Jg3452, you have to go on the OSU website and click the “future applicant” (or students, I don’t remember which) tab, then login. You first should have created an account, though.
If you’ve been able to see your status in evaluation, that means you’re in the right place.
