Admissions for Fall 2012

Ok so I have two questions!

I was planning to apply for spring of next year as a FMM major. I called FIT to ask a few questions two weeks ago and they quickly told me that while it is late in the application process, it was still possible to apply for fall of 2012. With that said, I got all of my transcripts sent and spent a week straight on my essay. (killer, if you ask me. explained all of my reasoning for my applied major and my experience within the field.) MyFIT says my transcripts have been received along with my essay and history of education, etc. I am just wondering if although I applied late (two weeks ago), if I will still be receiving my decision by April 1.

Also, just curious about transfer requirements and chances. If any of you are students or have friends that have transfered maybe you could give me an idea. I am currently attending a community college as a business major, I have a 3.4 GPA and have received nothing less than a B in any of my classes. (I also have experience with merchandising, I work in my local Victoria's Secret on the visual marketing team.) If any of you could help me out and give me a little insight I would greatly appreciate it!

People who applied to FIT before or at the deadline of February 1st will have their application reviewed first. So basically they will have the “first come ; first serve” treatment. Of course FIT will review everyone’s application and if they have room for their courses then they will be accepting late applicants. Just consider that A LOT of people (internationally too) who are majoring in Fashion will be applying to FIT. So competition is high. (They have a 28% acceptance rate since 2010). That being said, you’re coming from a community college. With only a 3.4 GPA. FIT considers 3.0 GPA + to be the requirement. I can’t really say much for FIT that you’re going to be accepted because what they really consider most is the GPA, The ESSAY (Really important for every other college), and your portfolio. FMM does not need a portfolio since it’s a business major. As for the job at your local Victoria’s Secret… good job? I don’t think they would care unless you put it in your essay. Just remember other students have experiences like you and much much more. Business majors in any school that is competitive looks for your grades, SAT/ACT, and again GPA.

if you have any questions ; feel free to ask.

-already accepted to FIT

@goodfornothin did you get in to FIT this fall?

I think that it is so hard to know what they are looking for, sometimes I think that I have an advantage becauses it was a couple of years ago since I graduated from high school so I have earned some really good workexperince that I do belive is rare. But at the same time my GPA isn’t that extremly high. We’ll see haha, soooo nervous!

@Goodfornothin; Thanks for your reply! Were you accepted for this upcoming fall? BTW, I wasn’t informing you about my job lol (but thanks) I was explaining my experience in the field. Many people apply to FIT with little or no experience at all, so the fact that I do have experience was definitely going into my essay.(It says on the website that while answering the prompt questions, the essay was our chance to let them know more about us/our experience.) So i definitely added that in. Also, while speaking with FIT on the phone, they said for a transfer student I do not need to send ACT scores. However, my scores are high, and maybe would help my chances. I’m not sure if theres any point in sending them now, my grades are pretty solid. (3.4 GPA yes, but as a whole I am confident with my transcripts) After high school I was going through some family troubles so I wanted to stay close to home to be near my parents (hence the community college) but hopefully that won’t hurt me too much. I’ve heard of students being admitted with a far lower GPA, I guess it all just depends! Fingers crossed.

@Grebestam I applied to FIT for spring courses for the hell of it. got accepted for fine arts. long story short, not attending FIT because FIT isn’t really great for fine arts.
Also what are you majoring in? Like for fine arts, it’s more easier to get in then said of FMM. Since FIT is indeed a fashion school of course. Not saying anything is easy tho.

@kaleighj Students do get admitted with a GPA lower than the requirement of 3.0. But then again they probably got accepted by default from their strong portfolio, high SAT/ACT scores, and essay. I don’t know anything about transfer students. Or anything about your community college and their academics. What you took classes for and such.

I’m guessing your name is Jessica G-- since their’s a girl “freaking” out in everyone who got accepted on the FIT page. lol. They probably got their acceptance letter because FIT send those first and so on until April 1st.
