<p>I’m confused about the numbers taken off the wait-list. While the article from 2010 says 40 applicants, I found an older article from Sept 2009 that said around 58 were taken off the list. Any ideas about the discrepancy? </p>

<p>“What is happening is that students are applying to more and more colleges, so it is giving a false sense of volume,” Coffin said. “There is the same number of students applying to more places.”</p>
<p>This is interesting. I’m wondering whether this will result in more people being let off the waitlist. Because people are applying more on “whims” than on actual intent to go to places, they will fill up an “admissions slot,” but not necessarily an “attendance slot,” thus leaving room on the waitlist. I guess we’ll see a few weeks into May…</p>
