Admissions

I am a freshman at a community college in michigan. I am applying to colleges out of state and UF is among the top on my list. I wouldnt be looking to go until i got 60 credits and an assiociates degree. What kind of gpa should i be aiming for to get into UF with a chemistry major? Is there anything else that will better my chances?

edit: what is a gpa that would make me competetive for transfer?

It is insanely difficult to transfer into UF if your from out-of-state. Having said that, this website may help you out.

<a href="http://www.admissions.ufl.edu/ugrad/trindex.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.admissions.ufl.edu/ugrad/trindex.html</a></p>

It may be more difficult but not impossible.

what confuses me is that the min. gpa on the website it says have a 2.0 and i looked on the page of my major and it says 2.5. It doesnt say anything about an average or who they accept. It just surprises me how low of a minimum they have.

IIRC, "minimum requirements" are determined by the state for legal student registration....keeps out ringer football players, for example, that are completely academically uncredible. They are not to be confused with what you actually need to have a decent chance with your application. I have no first-hand knowledge for what you need with an OOS AA degree, but I'd suggest 3.5+ is a good start.

burgler, just to give you some perspective - my s's friend tried to transfer from Tulane (& Katrina semester at Rice) with a cumulative of 3.2 ish (I believe) and 65 hours. She wasn't admitted. She was trying for college of natural sciences, exercise science major.
