Prospective Freshman -

I strongly suggest that you attend UCSD's Admit Day. Not only will you learn more about the academic (major) department you're interested in, but many student organizations will also be hosting information tables which is a great chance to talk to students about their UCSD experience. Each of the six colleges will be hosting their own Admit Day information sessions as well. For example, Muir College hosts sessions which will help you learn more about Muir, their GEs, take a tour of Muir, and give you a chance to interact with current Muir students. Of course, campus tours will also be happening all day.

If you're looking to visit UCSD, April 9th is the day to do it.

Another tip - check out the website for the college to which you've been admitted. Most of the college websites will have a section for prospective students which you may find incredibly useful.

It is, of course, still up to you. But for students such as myself who live in NorCal and didn't visit UCSD as a junior, going to Admit Day will help. I understand some of the SoCal acceptees have lived and breathed UCSD or UCLA (the latter's for a different thread; I'm just using it as an example), so they know everything there is to know about their campuses to their satisfaction. If you're one of those lucky acceptees, then don't worry about Admit Day. Gas is expensive. I've always benefited from orientations, except my school overdos (overdoes? Argh, grammar!) its orientations every year, but UCSD's is one that I will not miss out on. I'm ditching another school's Profile Day just to go to UCSD's, but that's also for a different thread.

I was looking at the agenda for admit day. A lot of the events have overlaping times. I wanted to attend Warren College sessions AND jacobs school of engineering things too.. so I don't know how things are gonna go. any ideas? or am i just reading the agendas wrong?

Well, they have overlapping times and that was my concern, too. But see, they repeat the events at least twice every 45 minutes or so. For example, Financial Aid is 45 minutes, followed by another program for 45 minutes, and then back to Financial Aid.

I'm more concerned about being within the immediate vicinity so my family and I can go into one auditorium, out the door, and then go to the next activity. I want to tour Marshall's housing, too, but that one goes from 11-3 if my memory serves me correctly, so I'm going to tell my parents to cram in the important talks to attend during the first half of the day. The Financial Aid talk and Biochemistry talk by Dr. Sawrey are the two talks I'm interested in and are overlaps; I'm just going to have to go to the 10 something session for one, and the other, the 12 something session.

Hmm. At first I thought I had to choose between the sessions with Warren college versus the sessions with Jacobs School.

Cuz the college sessions are 9-3pm. THe jacbos school sessions are
10:30 a.m. - 4:15 p.m. So... I duno what I'm going to do.

And what's the "Info Fair" ? I don't think I can even go to that or any of the 45 minute sessions.

im in the same situation as you, silverwolf..i really want to attend the jacobs school sessions but they overlap with the muir sessions..i dont want to miss those either! which information sessions would be more helpful? if i end up having to choose one, should i attend the sessions for my major or for my college?

I dont think I'm gonna attend

i would think Muir would have like three sessions during that time

maybe one starts at 9, another at 11, and another at 1
repeating the same info

That's true, HurricaneH.

But I wanted to go on the residential facilities tour. And that's 9-1:30pm. Anyone know how long a tour typically takes?

I decided I'm just gonna wing it. I'm still looking @ the schedule but after pre-prioritizing, if Murphy's Law will be nice on the 9th, my family and I will hit the hotspots first, Financial Aid (because I'm going to be dirt poor) then Biochem. And then I'm heading over to TMC for their residential hall tours.

Please wear your CC screen names somewhere on your person so we can stalk each other. LoL! In all seriousness, it's good to know that some of the posters here are going to be there. Anyone driving or flying?

I'll be driving down with some friends. My parents won't be able to make it. Look for a chinese guy :) My name is Patrick Lin. iono how we'll find each other.

we should have some secret hand signs...ppl will think we're from some weird cult haha!

im flying down from norcal. and ya we totally need a way of recognizing each other! none of my friends are going to admit day, so im going to be lonely! haha.. :)

good idea j.project..i guess the individual sessions aren't as important as getting a feel for the school itself.

Handsigns. Hahahah! I'm going for the broccoli necklace, you guys, I don't caaaarreee... :p Or look for some PacIslander chick with ridiculously long wavy hair. That'll be me, most likely.

I'm glad I was able to offer another perspective on that, breakaway. I'm taking this trip seriously because my decision hinges on this campus visit + my other campus visit on the 16th. I know I've already said that I want to go to UCSD, but as long as I have the other school option open, then I'm going to remain restless.

This is a parallel to Admit Day and abc321 created a new thread about it (and I had a few choice words to say about this event...), but did anyone else know about the UCSD Admissions night tonight for NorCal people?!

http://alumni.ucsd.edu/events/details.asp?evt=287

I'm. Quite. P*ssed. Seriously! How many NorCal people knew about this night?! I would have driven alone to Oakland to go if I knew like, a week ahead of time, and freakin' "mid-March" decisions... 12 days isn't very much time to send notices out! Heck, I only got my official snail mail notice from UCSD yesterday.

GRRR... this female's not happy about this. We're probably not missing out on much, but now we won't know. Honestly, how else could we have found out? Oh sure, we visit that alumni website all the time... kicks @ some random object

Oh wow. I didn't know. Are you sure that night isn't just for UCSD Alumni Scholars? Like scholarship winners or whatevers?

I don't think I'll be attending the individual 45 min seminars. I'll be running from one place to another. Hopefully I wont spend too much time walking iin a dazed lost fashion. I was doing that 2 days ago when I went for a campus tour. :)

Fortunately for me, my school is about 2 hours away. And, as usual, many of my schools seniors are attending. So.. I won't be lonely! :)

j.project and breakaway, wanna exchange emails/AOL SNs so we can meet up sometime?

No, it's not, silverwolf... sigh I took care and made sure I read the ditty on the whole event and it's really for newly admitted froshies; the alumni will be on hand to answer questions. I wish I knew... I have a lot of questions for them, too, and I'll still have the chance on April 9 to ask, but it would have been nice to have the opportunity to have most of them answered.

i'm sorry you missed the admissions night :( i knew about it, but oakland is about 1.5-2 hours from me and i didn't think they would be giving me any info that i couldn't get at admit day..

my decision also hinges on these last few campus visits..ugh its so crazy that we have 1 month to decide where we're gonna be spending the next 4 years of our lives.

Hey does anyone know if you are allowed to go with ur friends who havent been admitted? and are all the colleges on the same day? if not then when does Revelle have an admit day

yeah you can take your friends but they probably want it limited but who cares. also Revelle is on the same day April 9 ill probably see you there.
