Hi all - April 6th is the school’s last admit day and we are OOO. Missed on early registration and now its showing full. I have called the admissions office and sent email to the appropriate department for help on this. Any other suggestions as my daugther would love to meet kids who will be potentially joining with her in freshman year.
@hope2019 this may not be the most PC advice, but I would show up anyway. We went last weekend and literally checked in and got a plastic bag with some free stuff, and a booklet with the agenda inside. Everything from that point was kind of a “free for all”. We only went to one information session (Darla Moore College of Business) and it was open seating with no one checking anyone in. After that you kind of create your own agenda. They had several rooms in Russell Hall with student life booths where you could get more of the same free stuff and ask questions about different things, and you can tour the rec center and several dorms. Cocky was walking around, the band showed up to play, etc. There are shuttles to take you to far away places on campus, but honestly we just walked everywhere. You will need the “agenda” to board a shuttle bus, but you can probably go up and ask for an extra one from the table in front of Russell where people check in. They also had non-stop campus tours going on from the visitors center.
By going anyway, your student will get the “vibe” and energy of all the accepted students being together. It was quite well done, and you could definitely feel an energy that is not there when you tour the campus yourself or with a regular tour. I can’t speak for other college info sessions like engineering or education, etc. They may require a check-in. But even if you can’t sit in their “canned” info session speeches which are just a broad overview anyway, your student will get a lot out of being there while all these dorms are open to tour. Not one person checked our credentials at any time for any of it. Hope this helps!
@Hope2019 SweetFreedom is right, you could probably go anyway and get most, if not all, of the same benefits. We attended the January session. The only time they checked our credentials was when we went to get the lawn sign from the table that already-committed and deposited students could get. My daughter was in the College of Arts & Sciences meeting for her major (Cardiovascular Tech) and nobody checked credentials at the door. If someone in admissions can help you get officially registered (or maybe on the waitlist bc they had one for the January session), that would be nice but honestly I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary. Not sure how far away you are (you said you’re OOS) but I think it would be worth the trip bc your child can still have a great experience on campus that day!
I agree with the responses above. Just attended the last one. Just go. You’ll see a lot and get the vibe. We had two morning sessions an hour each. One for honors college and one for the specific department of study. There was plenty room for more people at each and no one would have minded a few more. So you could try to find out if there is an info session relevant to your major and just go. Even if you didn’t go to those you’ll get a lot from the visit, in particular if you haven’t visited. If you have visited and have seen the dorms, it may not be as important to do admitted students day.
What’s your student’s major? Admitted Student day sealed the deal for my son.
Thank you all we finally have an email from USC that we have been confirmed for Admit day April 6th @Iastone03 my D is going for Business - Marketing major
@Hope2019 Yay, glad you can go. Make sure to do the Darla info session. Like @lastone03 said, it kinda sealed the deal for our daughter too!
My son and I both found the Accepted Student Day interesting and informative. Glad you are able to go.
