UC Davis is probably about 50 minutes from my house. It wasn’t a decision on how close I would be to home and I still would have lived on campus. It really came down to where I felt like I would feel most “at home” during my four years. I just felt it a little more at UCSD. I’d probably be equally as happy at Davis though honestly, but I’m not regretting my decision or anything like that.

And dude, you can sit through essentially any class with more than 100 students. You should come to class with me!!!

Haha oh man I would but they’re so elated and they’ve been so great throughout the whole college admissions process that I would feel terrible telling them otherwise. I mean Cal has a good bio program and all but I don’t know, I guess I just feel like I would feel better in San Diego (where the blue sky actually shows, and not just two days out of a year)

I guess quite a bit of it is cultural, bragging rights to family, coworkers, and well I mean Cal is a good school. I can see why they would want me to go there, but I think a part of me would wilt if I never got to go to socal xD.

^Tell them that. JeSuis is right, this is the next four years of YOUR life and it’s not like you’re picking between Berkeley and Western Wyoming Community College (I apologize to any of you who attend Western Wyoming Community College). Tell them how important it is to you. And then start doing some major sobbing and say “Don’t you love me and want me to be happy?!?!?!?!?!” And then boom, UCSD here you come.

Oh, those are both on the audit list, as well. I’m definitely going to consider this if you’re serious, especially since both of those classes seem interesting.

Random question: you’re a sophomore, right?

I’m definitely serious if you want to. Quite honestly, I’ve sat through my friend’s MMW class with her (ERC’s writing class) and I felt like the only one paying attention. Ha ha. I’m also glad you think those classes seem interesting. Hopefully they are.

^And honestly, not only can you sit through most classes, you could have even taken my physics quiz for me (not that they’re on Mondays). My stupid physics classes didn’t even check IDs until the final and I don’t even think you needed your name on the Scantron either. They just gave you a number that you used for the quarter. Not that I would ever cheat though, but just saying.

Haha I think my parents would send me to the funny farm if I started crying in front of them xD. Sigh! This is making me sad. All my friends are talking about being “mysterious magical mermen”. Eeee I should give the crying thing a shot tomorrow lol.

King if this works I will bake you cookies everyday if I go to SD or something haha

Cookies! Aw, you don’t have to do that. Ha ha. I was kidding about the crying part, but you really should tell them how much you really want to come here and how important it is to you. And also what a fantastic university it is and how you don’t want to be miserable with the scary hobos.

Oh gosh, I mean I love society in general, but Berkeley is too hobo filled for my tastes. It makes USC look mild. Am I still allowed to go to admit day even if I don’t exactly accept my offer? I’d love to visit SD again and that would definitely be interesting to run into you King haha~

I am an Asian parent and I think I can help you to convince your parents.

I work for a major biotech company and I visit San Diego often. While I was there, I saw many UCSD interns working in major pharma/biotech companies. San Diego has the biggest concentration of Pharma/Biotech companies in the world and you will have a better chance landing a great internship there than in Berkeley/Oakland area, where there used to be many good biotech companies such as Chiron/Bayer/Berlex, it is not so any more due to corporate merges and downsizing…Such experience will help you tremendously with your future medical school applications.

Also, UCSD has an amazing Bioscience focus that is just as good (if not better) as similar majors in UCB.

Furthermore, like everyone has said, UCB is extremely competitive. While UCSD is also competitive, it’s not nearly as much as at UCB. Thus, while you will still get an amazing education at UCSD (as good as, or better than UCB), you might get better grades at UCSD; and this will help you get into top medical schools down the road.

You have achieved great success so far by getting into both UCSD and UCB. Your parents have earned their bragging rights. It’s now your turn to live your life to the fullest and be even more accomplished in college.

Oh, one more thing - if you plan on going to medical school/graduate school anyway, then where you go to college is less important than where you go to graduate school. Trust me, I have been there…

speaking of grad school, im going to mix up the topic now ;)

how should we decide on grad school… i mean being a pharmacist requires a B.S. and i really have no intentions of spending a couple more years studying on becoming a pharmacist when i can be out there in the field making millions and not having a ginormous debt from grad school afterwards…

iit would be cool to be the only one in the family with a doctorate in pharmacology, but at the same time, i dont really think it is worth it. hmm what do you guys think…

btw i was talking with my dad a fellow pharmacist pharmacology major, and he got a BSc (Honors) 2nd class at this uni in Sunderland, UK… Does UCSD offer that too/

and on the topic of UCB vs. UCSD comparison in bio programs(such as which would be a better option if im a medical prospective student)…are there any other opinions…im having a hard time making a decision.
