Admitted! It feels unreal.

I think they’ll send you an email. Just make sure that on your application status page that you have chosen YES where it says “Desicion by E-mail?” If it says “NO” you can easily change it by clicking on “Change Adress/E-mail” at the top of the page.

well, out of curiosity, has anyone else gotten likelies from harvard? anyone?

Congratulations!

Well I posted a while back that I did in October.
The situation youwillsee1 described where the admissions officer calls is exactly how mine was but I also got the letter 3 days later.

congratulationz, lirazelly’s got a tantrum! why so offended by my “declarationz of ■■■■■”? idk, idc, kma (kizz my aardwark!)

youwillsee joins CC, after her 5th posts, she getz likly letter, admits she got not impressive statz, and its 3 weeks b4 decision doomsday. pardon me, uwillsee’s not believable.

srry im not “emotionally mature” enuf to accept uwillsee’s humble ■■■■■■■■. ■■■■■

It’s easily doable. I’ve worked (at least) 30 hours a week since the summer after freshman year. 7 to 4 (8.5 hours per day, take away 30 minutes a day for lunch) every Saturday and Sunday, plus 5 pm to closing (11pm) four out of five days during the week. That’s 41 hours. Of course my boss always tried to give me two days off during the week, so I only had about 35 hours/ week. And I’d like to think my grades are Harvard caliber, I’m second in my class with a 4.51/5.0 GPA. Trust me, it’s possible.

I totally believe you but your first post was chock full of wishy washy, overly sentimental cliches  if I were you I wouldve written: I just got into HARVARD, see ya later suckersss

congrats :D

^but must i insist, youwillsee iz ■■■■■■■■. not a single post in the harvard thread till likely call.

not a single post in the harvard thread till likely call?

youwillsee’s 10th post was her likely call. she had not posted a single post in the Harvard thread b4 thn indicating any intrest in harvard whatsoever.

not only that, afta her likely call, she still is intrestd in northwestern—> so much so, she wrote tday in the Northwestern forum expressing her intrest in sending in anotha essay to Northwestern…

but i thought, her fabulous Common App essay (tht she reportdly spent 6 months on) was wht got her the likely call. if so, why so insistent on displaying ur steller self even more…

may i say the magic word: itz strts with T and ends in L: ??? (Hint: it has an R in it too, btw itz b/w 1 to 2 sylables)…

Why do we care if he/she is lying? Congratulate them, and move on.

For the record, I’ve only posted a few times in the Harvard forum. I’m pretty sure it will have little or no effect on whether or not Harvard admits me. Obviously I’m interested in Harvard - it’s HARVARD. If I got in I’d go there in a second. Doesn’t mean I have to post in the thread a thousand times.

Your logic doesn’t make sense. Your arguments also might come across slightly more intelligently if you at least used proper grammar, especially for a prospective Harvard student.

As for the OP - congratulations! I have a friend who received a call and a letter with similar stats to yours (although she isn’t Asian - she is low-income, similar test score). At the time she was contemplating a full ride to our state school, but the call definitely changed her mind - perhaps this is the logic of Harvard’s call to low-income students? Either way, CONGRATS!

I would hope that people as intelligent as most H applicants are would have a little more depth than “it’s HARVARD” behind their reasons for both interest and for attending once admitted.

I actually got a likely letter. Before anyone starts accusing me, no I’ve never posted on the Harvard board, because I was determined not to get my hopes up at all. I mostly have just been on here when I’m procrastinating about something or wanted to try and figure something out about the common app or whatever, and I usually didn’t post anything. Anyway, I have two reasons for posting: first, don’t give up hope if you come from a school where everyone is headed to community college or the local campus of the state university. I think that actually might have been an advantage, because I showed that I could be independent and find my own opportunities, like online classes and extracurriculars beyond my school. Second, maybe they are sending out more likely letters than they have in the past, and not just to national award winners or recruited athletes, of which I am neither.

My test scores are pretty good (34 ACT, two 800s and a 670 on the subject tests), but I’ve only taken a couple AP, all online because my school doesn’t offer any, and all electives like French and Psychology that I thought would be cool to take as AP online–but not core subjects like Calc. I don’t have any national awards except National Merit Scholar. I was pretty seriously involved in extracurricular stuff, lots of music, three sports, president of two clubs. I did send them a music CD, and I play a less common instrument, so that might have helped. But I don’t see myself as some sort of “exceptional applicant”: I’m basically the epitome of well-roundedness, not a superstar in any one area. I did make it to state in one of the sports, but I’m not at all D1 recruiting caliber. In general, I couldn’t believe I got in. And when I found out what this whole likely letter deal was, I really couldn’t believe I got one. But, we checked the postmark and it WAS from Cambridge. It was actually signed and had a little note on it too. I’m from the middle of nowhere, so maybe they sent me a likely because they wanted me to be able to find out more about the school and come visit before I have to decide.

Millancad - you are correct. It was a poorly-phrased choice of words on my part; I just really didn’t want to get into why I love the school. All I meant was that you don’t have to be constantly posting on the Harvard forum in order to be interested in a school as fantastic as Harvard, a notion that I found slightly bizarre.

I am extremely familiar with the school; I used to live in Boston and have a good friend who goes there. I’d like to think I’m an intelligent applicant with solid reasons for applying, the topmost being, of course, that I’ve loved the school since I used to go there when I was little. Please forgive me if it didn’t come across that way…I’m rather tired and didn’t feel like typing a lot.

also, congrats to Sylvie88…those were almost my reasons exactly for my reluctance to post in this forum.

First of all I want to say who cares if the OP is a ■■■■■. That fact has 0 effect on any of your lives. Get over it.

Now, I just want to say congrats to the OP. I believe you for the following reasons.

admissions is random

Harvard care A LOT about the essays (my counselor was a admission officer at a top college and she said this).

other people that didn’t cure cancer/go to mars got likelies.

The OPs stats are while not OMG your a genius great, they are still in the realm of accepted students and the low income could have pushed the OP over the edge.

OMG!!! I LOVE HARVARD FOR SENDING ME ONE! Only yesterday I was calling people ■■■■■■ and now I probably look like one! eyes full of ecstasy and tears

@Polyglot - You know the likelies came last week right? So I think you’re a bit late.

I’m so confused. People getting likelys right and left. What happened to “only a few” being mailed out?

Maybe I should make a new thread and say I got a likely too = D. It would make me feel good for about 3.141592653 seconds… als;dkfaso;iefn;oia I’m lame.
