Just got back from the Admitted Student Day with D2. I have been to several other of these events with D1 that is now a Freshman in College and I did not think Xavier did as well as other of these type of events I have attended. While I liked Xavier I kept waiting for that Wow moment. I didn't think they did a very good job of marketing themselves, other than the student panel, which was good. On top of all that the weather on Sunday was dismal at best (nothing you can do about that!). With that said I do like the shcool and more importantly my D liked it, Xavier also made an attractive offer to her. She is accepted to the Nursing Program and according to the Dean of Admissions the Nursing Program has 100% job placement at graduation. She is also considering Pitt and UDel, completely different schools. While the campus seemed quiet they do offer shuttles on the weekends into Downtown. I am rambling a bit but since we just got back I thought I would post my thoughts, I liked the school but just didn't come away raving about it.

Thank you for sharing your observations. We are visiting Xavier in 2 weeks. I have noticed that they have been the least “personable” in their recruitment of potential new students, kind of sterile. I thought the same thing of the college that my oldest daughter currently attends, their open house seemed to be mailed in. Turned me off but my daughter loved the pitch. Meanwhile the college with the best feel and recruitment process to me was the one she liked the least. Xavier does have a great Nursing program but Pitt is also great. Good luck!

D was also accepted to Xavier nursing and we visited the school and she met with a professor from the nursing program and spent the day with nursing students. We loved the campus, and the nursing faculty seemed very warm and caring. Everyone we met was nice and the students were friendly and positive. We also attended an accepted student night in our hometown and it was wonderful. The dorms were spotless and campus very clean and neat. The Cintas Center is a beautiful new sports facility and the campus is modern and updated. We are still considering XU, Pitt, Duquesne, Marquette, UVM and Northeastern. Pitt kind of gouges nursing students as nursing is the most expensive school, costing more than their dental school and OOS students pay 32K + room and board. OUCH!

S was accepted in the HAB program. We went for a visit 3 weeks ago so he could sit in on some classes and meet some of the students currently in the program. We both had a great experience. Several professors took time out of their day to meet privately with us. Students showed him around campus, including taking him to lunch. I spent much of the day walking around campus and talking to students. From faculty to students, everyone was very friendly. We plan to attend the next Preview Day so he can meet some other admitted students. I have had nothing but positive experiences in my communications from Xavier.

Don’t get me wrong I like the school, sometimes you can be swayed by an energeitc tour guide, or one that is indifferent, just like in any other “sales” situation. I asked my daughter what she liked about Xavier and she said she liked the campus and the fact that it did not seem like a party school (I was glad to hear her say that!). She is the kind of kid who likes to hang out with her friends and do things with them. Being from Pittsburgh, Cincinnati has a very familiar feel to it. I appreciate the comments, I have been interested in comments regarding Xavier but there just has not been much activity on this post, good luck to everyone!

We just returned from the second Preview Day on Saturday. We had a great experience. (We did luck out with the weather, it was beautiful out). Since our S is the first child we are sending to college, the sessions were informative to us as parents. Maybe canned, but still informative. Since my son was a deposited student, he walked away with his fall schedule in hand. We spent some time with his advisor, who then asked us to join current HAB students to a pig roast the students were having in the green space.
Each time we return, we can see the school becoming more and more like home for our son and we can picture him at Xavier for the next four years. Small but not too small and lots of personal attention. Very happy with his choice.
