I’m going to be attending one of the upcoming events on campus for admitted students (April 5-6 and 12-13). I signed up on the UChicago portal. But the admissions office has not posted the schedule yet. Each event starts on Thursday morning, and finishes on Friday at noon. I have a few questions for those of you who have gone in years past:
Is staying in the dorms optional?? They ask us to bring our own sleeping bags and pillows. Looks like we’ll be sleeping on the floor in a dorm. Not a problem for me, but just want to be prepared.
What type of activities are planned during these 2 days?
Are there separate events for parents?
Is it okay to stay on campus after the formal activities end? I have some friends from my high school who currently attend UChicago and I might consider hanging out with them on Friday night and leaving on Saturday. Is there a formal process for getting permission to stay on campus?
This year’s schedule is also located in the email they sent you regarding Admitted Student Open houses days, click on the link in the mail, then log on to your portal, and you’ll see another link that says ‘view a schedule of events for…’
Don’t miss the informational sessions with the student panels (studying abroad, community service, extracurricular activities, summer programs, etc). They provide very useful information about opportunities at UChicago, personal experiences, and student life.
ME [Calm voice]: Steven Levitt who, wrote Freakonomics and David Axelrod, senior strategist to Obama will be speakers on one of the admitted student days.
Hope DS doesn’t find out. He’s going to the other weekend and would be very disappointed to know he missed that. Wonder who they’ll have at the next one?
Does anyone know how to register for the student class visit or the facility tour? The brochure recommends to sign up beforehand but I don’t see any links for it on the Admitted Student page.
@uocparent, ignore my previous question, I see it now on the OH page. Just had to clear cache. We are also going to second weekend. Fingers crossed for equally exciting speakers!
I almost ran into Professor Lars Hansen (Nobel 2013) just a few weeks ago. When you are walking on 58th along Booth and Saieh Hall, you just may see a Nobel Laureate .
@milee30 Levitt and Axelrod are faculty there, so even if your S doesn’t get to see them in April, maybe he’ll have a chance to take classes with them, or attend other events.
@KMN345 the link to sign up for class and facilities tour is in the emailed entitled: “Admitted Student Open House Confirmation & Class Visit Selection” and then the link is called: “Sign up for a class and facility tour here!*”
