Is anyone here going? My DD is.
@TytoAlba I hope your DD enjoys herself. My DD will be an overnight host for the first time.
@1518mom dd is wondering if they literally sleep on the floor.
Yes, they do unless they end up in a room with an extra bed. Think of it like camping :)) They’re young; they can handle it for one night!
My S is going… very excited but far far from home.
My son will also be attending. He hasn’t made a decision, but so far Beloit is his favorite.
Beloit is my daughter’s favorite as well. She attended the Admitted Student Open House last month and has been enjoying meeting (potential) classmates via the class of 2020 Facebook group.
What were your son’s stats. Could you please share. I am waiting for my decision as well.
@charlesben Not sure if you mean my S, but he had a 3.81UW/4.2W, 2240, and 32 ACT. Haven’t seen him yet as he is flying back tonight but so far I have heard that it was “super cool” and all the people were really really really nice.
DD did her overnight and thought her host was lovely, the professors warm and engaging, but the campus wasn’t the right fit. And she returned to find and acceptance to Carleton so now more campuses to consider.
@TytoAlba Congratulations on your DD’s Carleton admission! That was my daughter’s favorite a few years ago (she wasn’t accepted =(() and we liked pretty much everything about it.
DS enjoyed the Beloit overnight. He was hosted by a student living in one of the special interest houses rather than a dorm, which seemed a bit odd to me. But he attended a couple of interesting classes and agreed that he could picture himself going to school there.
Highlight of the Beloit visit for me: president’s welcome speech.
@rienrah Get any socks?
My D stayed in an interest house last year for her admitted student weekend. I think the decision on where to place kids for overnights depends on who they have to host without regard to where the kids live. They have permanent hosts for one-off visits, but they hire many additional kids to host for their “open house” weekends. There’s an application with training and it is a paid (don’t count on earning more than what a couple of Sunday night dinners cost for each night hosted) position. My D now lives in an interest house, but it is housed in part of a dorm.
@TytoAlba Sorry it didn’t work out for your DD. Good luck with Carleton and her other choices.
Yes – He is so funny!
@1518mom No socks yet, but maybe soon. One more school to visit, then decision time!
Yes that speech was hilarious!
My S came home really impressed with Beloit… it was just sorta on the radar over the past few months, but the outreach was been awesome, the opportunity of the summer grant ,and the genuine niceness of everyone he met really made a difference. Not sure if he will ultimately choose it, but it went from sorta kinda cool to on “The List”.
Turtle socks received! Just sayin’, in case anyone else is still waiting for that all-important puffy envelope.
DS just received his socks, too. We’d almost given up, we were joking that Beloit hooked him in under false pretenses.
