@CEOSandeep I have no clue - UMN doesn’t publish those stats (unlike some other publics where you can actually look at acceptance rates by home location . . . ). I know that the OOS students do tend to get acceptances first but those are the very tippy-top students (many in CSE) who are obvious admits.
The fact that you specified comp. sci. means there is still hope for at least CLA. They look at what you want to study as well as your stats. You can definitely do CS through CLA and then transfer or stick with it in that college. Your stats are fine for CLA - it’s just a matter of what they think you want to do. If you think a personal statement will help with that then by all means send one along.
And you still might get into CSE. I’m just thinking of fallback possibilities.
@CEOSandeep Top 25% w/3.76 UW GPA? Seems that the class rank is low versus GPA. Is class rank based on W GPA? What is your W GPA?
Your ACT is good so I think they may be trying to figure out the discrepancy and waiting until after the cut-off to make a decision. Sit tight because you may not hear until after the turn of the year.
@CyclonesGrad I go to a very competitive school. My weighted GPA is 4.8/6. Class rank for our school is based on my weighted GPA.
@Mamelot Do you know if a transfer from CLA Computer Science to CSE Computer Science is easy to get accepted to while attending the University of Minnesota? Also, thanks so much for your help.
I got accepted into CLA about a month ago, is it a bad sign if I haven’t heard about honors yet? Does it show up on your tracker if you’re NOT accepted to the honors program, or only if you’re accepted?
@CEOSandeep that’s a question that might be best answered with a separate thread. There are parents and other posters who know more about transferring to CSE from CLA than I do.
Here is a link to point out the distinctions between the BS and BA for CS:
Just got accepted into University of Michigan! I’m going to reject my acceptance to Minnesota and hopefully open up another spot for someone else! Goodbye everyone and good luck/congratulations!
I found out I got into the CLA today, but applied to the CSOM. Has anyone ever heard of a situation where the U admits someone to a college they didn’t select or is this a mistake?
I double checked the printout I made of my Golden Gopher Application and I selected CSOM for both my first and second choices (different majors). Thanks!
Stats:
ACT: 33, GPA: 3.81 uw, CO resident, top 25% class rank
That does happen, @andy2016, if the admissions dept. thinks that’s a better fit or the stats aren’t quite what they should be for the more selective colleges (such as CSOM). But your stats are very strong - perhaps the only thing that held you back was class rank because CSOM admits top 10% - 15%. But seriously that ACT should have offset that! Were you in AP classes? When did you apply?
@Mamelot Thanks for the response. I didn’t do AP before my senior year, but this year I am enrolled in 5 AP classes and I listed them on the application. App was submitted 9/28, completed 10/3. Thanks again.
I just found out I was accepted into College of Science and Engineering! I had no idea they would get back to me so quickly, I applied late November… when should I expect scholarship notifications? At what point would I assume I didn’t get any? (sorry if this was already discussed but I’m not planning on going through 22 forum pages)
Anyway, I was 3.9 GPA unweighted, 4.2 weighted, top 6%ish of high school class as of now. 2270 SAT. Probably pretty strong ECs but nothing over the top, and really no leadership stuff. Out-of-state. Nothing else very notable/unique on my application, as far as I can tell.
Good luck to everyone still waiting to find out, I hope you don’t feel too tense. I’m highly excited for UMN and think I will end up going!
Not sure when I got my decision but I randomly checked today and I had an acceptance into the CSE, no email or anything. I applied two weeks ago, WI resident, 33 act, 3.9 uw gpa
