Admitted Students - Class of 2020

I’m curious about that as well @sjmaiklee . I don’t remember any posts on this thread from anyone stating that they were denied, but unfortunately people tend not to post when they receive a denial (also, I think the threads title should be changed to Class of 2020 “responses”, instead of “Admitted” ).

Every year it seems like some aspect of this timing gets tweaked a bit, but from what I can determine they send all their acceptances first and then send out the other decisions. Not sure about CLA-acceptances (where it wasn’t college of choice) - this year we’ve seen some of those early but I’m guessing a bunch more will go out as we get closer to the deadline.

Does anyone know when you hear about scholarships and honors college stuff If you’re out of state? Will the honors college come up on the portal or just be mailed out?

All scholarships and honors program invites tend to go out by March. You don’t want the financial awards going out later than that because students need to see their award letter so they can make decisions by May 1.

Honors program notification will be on the Tracker. Any merit aid should be by regular mail (will not be on the Tracker). The award letter (including net cost of attendance after deducting all financial and merit awards) will be on the portal but I think in MyU as opposed to the Tracker.

Hope this helps!

@Mamelot Are there scholarships for students that demonstrate financial need regardless of their GPA/test scores or do only stellar students get scholarships?

@freakofnature22 as a state university UMN is probably going to be pretty straightforward on letting you know the extent to which it can meet the difference between your EFC and net cost of attendance. You should try to complete the FAFSA as early as possible in order to determine EFC if you don’t know it already. 2016-17 forms are operational as of 1/1/2016. Here is the UMN financial aid website with links to various need-based scholarship opportunities.

URM

I’d say my application was towards the top of the pile. Cross my fingers that a C+ in Calc, B in CIS Anatomy and B in CIS Comp won’t kill my chances of going there (grades yet to be finalized but I’ve had a tough time with these courses so they’re my projected end grades).

I was told when I joined CC that I’d have a 50/50 chance of going here but due to being in-state I knew my chances were a lot higher.

Moral of the story: Don’t let these frustrated over-achievers on CC make you think you that you aren’t worth it.

I was planning on applying to schools that had 15% or lower acceptance rates but after my acceptance to U of M Twin Cities I stopped applying to other schools (because staying near my family was a priority).

Shoot for the stars and don’t let anyone bring you down~
(I’ll try making an update on whether or not my admission was rescinded because there really is a lack of information on that for the u of m online.)

@Sunbodi They told you that you had a 50/50 chance? Ridiculous! Btw, as long as you don’t fail (get Ds and Fs) they don’t care about your senior year grades. So just chill for the remainder of the year. Congratulations!

I was accepted today!!!
CLA with a major in Spanish but Pre-Med track

GPA: 4.125
ACT: 25

Multiple EC’s, leadership, and great letters of rec.

Congrats to all that have been admitted!!

@BHS2020 Congrats!

Accepted to CFANS yesterday. Had applied to School of Engineering and knew it would be a stretch. CFANS- Natural Resource major will be a nice fit. Still waiting to hear from U Wisc before decision will be made.

Congrats to all that have been accepted so far!

In regards to the “has anyone been denied yet” question, 625 parchment.com users who applied at UM this year (I believe this would include 2016 spring semester and 2016 fall semester) have been denied. Not sure how true this number is. You can click on the profiles of the users. I clicked on 4 or 5 and they all seemed like active users (have been on the site within the last 2 weeks). Even if the number is half true, there is some comfort that my son was not an instant or early denial. So, we continue to hold out hope that he is being considered for acceptance.

Hi there! Starting to freak out a bit and second guess my chances of getting into CLA after reading all of your guys’ stats…
I applied 8/11 but my app wasn’t officially completed (with transcript) until 10/27. I know a few people who have gotten into the other colleges even though they applied later than I, and I am wondering if that is a common thing or just random?
My app was fairly strong with

25 ACT
3.65 GPA
3 APS
2 years of CIS
and 2 study abroad trips, plus many extra curriculars
Can anyone help a girl out over here?!?

Hey guys!
International Student here,
Admitted to the College of Science and Engineering- Computer Science.
SAT- 2140 Superscore.
GPA N/A
Great Essays and extra-curriculars.
I haven’t received a mail packet yet, but checked the status. Is the Scholarship and Honors program information in the mail only? Or does it appear on the Application Tracker too?

Has anyone received the mail packet? It has been pretty long since I was accepted and I still haven’t gotten mine.

@TrickshotSniper I have and I got it about a week after I saw the acceptance on the application tracker

@slt123 I’m in a similar situation. I applied to CEHD back in early November. When looking at everyone’s acceptances, I’ve noticed that nobody else has been posting about that school in particular. I am not sure if it’s my stats (very similar to yours) or if it’s something else. I’ll keep you posted if anything changes. I’m sure it’s not you! Hopefully you’ll hear soon!
