Admitted Students - Class of 2020

Thank you and thank you for doing your best to inform everyone I greatly appreciate it and I am sure others do too, even if you don’t know for certain.

S was accepted today to CSE!! Applied 8/24, OOS. 35 ACT, 3.6/4.1, 11 APs, good computer science ECs.

@s16s18s21s25 told ya!!! So happy for your son. Hope he looks into it. Congratulations and well done!!!

That’s awesome @s16s18s21s25 . My son is still waiting for a reply. He applied to CSofB (not sure if that’s the right abbreviation?..Carlson School of Business). Hopefully we will hear something soon!

Thank you!! Not sure at this point…he got a good scholarship from Purdue, and he got into UMD with honors, which I think could mean $$ as well, and we’ll hear from UIUC today, so we have some choices. I think S18 will apply here, though, because something about the school really intrigues me.

@s16s18s21s25 Congratulations to your son and to you too! He has some pretty good choices. Good Luck for UIUC

Applied in September…already accepted to U of Illinois and Marquette - this is gonna be a tough decision…wish U of M would let us know sooner!

@s16s18s21s25 Congrats!!! I know you have been waiting a long time. Any of the schools he was accepted to are very god. I say go to who offers the best $$$. Honors college for smaller class sizes is a benefit worth condidering, for sure!

Here is an article for perspective:

@CyclonesGrad thanks! He was rejected from UIUC, which, because he refused to listen to my discussions about the odds of admission, was absolutely crushing for him, but I think he has some great options and am glad this process is winding down. Because the emotional component is now gone, and the schools he has seems to be pretty evenly ranked, it is pretty much a money or whose campus speaks to him based decision.

Hi everyone,

I was finally accepted this morning to CLA.
GPA: 4.13/4.5, 3.9/4.0
ACT: 26

I was sad to not have gotten into my first option, CBS, but CLA is great for Biology, too! I’m just hoping I can transfer without difficulty to CBS during my freshman year.

Accepted to Chemical engineering!
SAT : 2090 M(750) CR(580) WR(760)
SAT 2 : Math Level 2 770
Physics : 720
Chemistry : 770
Class Rank : 2/100

@ug1975 Accepted directly into ChemE? I thought CSE only accepts as general and then you apply after fall of Sophomore year.

@CyclonesGrad Yeah, they accept you into the College of Science and Engineering, but you apply to your major sophomore year.

Omg! Just received an email that i’d be receiving the Gold Global Excellence Scholarship!!! I’m so happyy

Hey guys!
I applied to UMN back in December. I have applied to the College of Science & Engineering, and I am confused on my chances of getting in. Here are my stats:
GPA UW: 3.2
GPA W: 3.85
SAT: 1920 (590 CR, 730 M, 600 R)
ACT composite: 28
SAT Subject Tests: Math 2 (760); Chem (520)

I have taken AP Calc AB (score: 4) and AP Physics 1 (score: 2) and am taking AP Calc BC and AP Physics C this year. I am also a full IB Diploma student with Bio, History, and English HLs as well as Spanish, Physics, and Math SLs. I am OOS as well.

ECs: tennis, soccer, library volunteering, music, other organizations (9 total ECs)

Intended Major: Electrical Engineering
I don’t know if this will have any effect on my decision, but I’m also the only person applying to UMN from my school.

What do you guys think my chances are of getting in?
Thanks!

@Jackr12 CLA might not be a problem

Thanks for the fast response, but I already applied for CSE. You can be dead honest, I don’t mind the truth, but do you think I could get into CSE with my scores? I just want to get an idea of the possibility of me getting in so I don’t end up disappointed if I don’t.

@pallavijaniani
same here! got the global excellence scholarship and the undergraduate research scholarship!
so excited !!

@Jackr12 Honestly I don’t think you’re going to make it to CSE, but will almost surely at least get in CLA. I’m basing this off of their admitted student profile linked below which will help you to see where you stand out among other admitted students.

@UniversityGeek Thanks for the response. However, is it possible for me to get into CLA? The problem is that I applied both of my choices as engineering, both of which are in CSE. In that case, can I still be offered a chance to choose another alternate major (like Purdue) or will I just be rejected overall?
