Admitted Students - Class of 2020

@Jackr12
I applied for CSE and biology as second major. However, I ended up getting into CLA (BA Computer Science)
SAT 1910(540/800/570)
TOEFL 101
Math 2 800, Physics 750
Studying in Taiwan(perm res.)
So yeah, you have a chance

@Jackr12 They automatically consider you for CLA even if you only applied to other colleges to the best of my knowledge. You might want to confirm that.

Accepted in CLA . Do we need to enrol first to receive a scholarship by paying @250 $

Accepted to CLA as psych major!

We’re you accepted today?

Got in to CLA today. I’m disappointed since I wanted to go to CSE, so if I go I will transfer ASAP. I’m interested in Computer Science and would much rather complete the BS than the BA. Basic stats: 34 ACT, ~3.6 uw, ~3.8 w. What killed me is that my class rank is only top 15% or so. My GPA has gone up so I might try an appeal. Besides that, I had some solid extracurriculars.

@mnstude that is too bad - clearly you had a very strong application. It’s crazy how they decide at the last minute. Send in your mid-term grades ASAP if you haven’t already done so and definitely look into an appeal.

Good luck to you!

My son’s status in App tracker changed today to Your application is being very carefully considered. From what I have read previously in this forum…that’s a good sign…correct?

@BrewCrew82 mine did too. Prob just means a decision is coming soon

@classof2020ny, the only reason I was thinking it might be a good sign was because of this thread from last year:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-minnesota-twin-cities/1684034-expected-decision-times-p9.html

Notice posts #130, #131, and #132. All got the “carefully considered” notice on 12/24. They all found out about 3 days later (with Christmas being one of the days) that they were accepted. Also, notice post #126. Now I know that these were December decisions, so maybe not the same as February decisions, but I also noticed post #155 (“carefully considered”) on March 4th and accepted on March 6th. I have not seen anyone who posted that they got the “carefully considered” notice that did not follow it up with an “accepted” post a few days later.

Maybe it’s just hopeful thinking, but I guess we will see!

@BrewCrew82 I’m hoping you’re right…DS status changed this evening to the “very carefully considered” message. Fingers crossed!

If my status has not be changed is it most likely that I will be rejected/waitlisted?

You guys with the "Carefully Considered . . . " , be sure to check the tracker every day. Last year everyone who reported this DID get an accept. Fingers crossed for you all!

Waitlisted.

Ugh, waitlisted. Not sure DS has patience to wait another 2 months.

Yeah, my son was waitlisted as well. So, much for “carefully considering” being a pre-curser to an acceptance. Now he is in a “postponed” position at Wisconsin and “waitlisted” at Minnesota (and there is a chance, from what I have seen from past threads, that his postponed status could change to “waitlisted” at WI at the end of March!). He’s leaning towards Iowa State if neither of those come through.

Anyone have any additional information regarding being waitlisted at Minnesota? What is the eventual acceptance rate of those that are waitlisted? Will there still be decent residency housing options if he does not get accepted until mid-April?

Sorry for the double post, but just thought of a question…hoping someone can answer. When my son submitted his app I’m pretty sure he just put Carlson as his top option and did not put a 2nd option. Other than calling UM, not sure how to check this. I don’t think we saved a copy of his application and don’t remember the application login any more (not sure if you could even access the app anymore if if we could remember the login). If it turns out that he did only put one option, do you think if he called and stated that he would like to add CLA as a 2nd option that would help him get off the waitlist? I’m assuming that if you get accepted to your 2nd option, you can try to transfer into your first option after your first or second year…correct?

Edit: Was able to locate his application. No, he did not put a 2nd choice.

Applied 1st week in Dec. Notified (yesterday, could be day before as I didn’t check for 2 days) that got into CLA. Carlson was top choice and did not list any other. So I think one does not have to list CLA to be considered. I am not sure tho…
Oh I am OOS

I was waitlisted as well

same here
