Admitted Students Day

For anyone who has attended in the past -

Do family members usually accompany the students?

I certainly intend to join my daughter!

The reservation allowed you to have two guests (your parents) with you

My husband and I both went to accepted students day last year with our daughter. It was a day well spent! She is now a first year student - and made her decision to enroll after attending the accepted students day.

I heard from another NU parent that the housing and meals information is very useful and that both parents should attend.

My husband and I attended with our son. I stayed the entire time because my husband had to leave early.

It was well done-but be prepared to hear global a million times! Remember too that this is an informational day but also they are trying to close the sale. We took a lot of time to check things out after the official presentations. We walked around the campus and the surrounding areas to get more of a feel for what it was like to be a student there-you can tell alot by doing that.

He was leaning towards NEU and made it official at the end of the day. Well as official as buying a t shirt and hoodie can be.

He is a very happy freshman.

We’re attending in February and would appreciate ideas on areas of campus and surrounding areas to walk around to get better vibe of NEU. Would like to eat at a restaurant that students hang out at. Our “free time” will primarily be at night so want to experience area around NEU but stay safe. It will be Mother & Daughter on the visit. We know basic big city safety but are not familiar with Boston.

Texas mom, we are doing the same thing! Looking for stuff to do on Saturday that feels “student-like” and where we minoght even run into students. My only insisted detour is to Mike’s Pastry shop on Hanover street in the north end on Saturday so we have goodies for the trip home Sunday night! If they last overnight.

The only restaurant that I can think of that’s a big student hangout is BHOP (Boston House of Pizza). Other restaurants in the area will of course have students, especially on weekend evenings, but BHOP is the only real student hangout place I can think of. However, I recommend that you not go there - the pizza isn’t very good (honestly, the best delivery place near campus is a Papa Johns. The state of local pizza is not great).

Yikes WiseGuy, coming from chicago that is a very disappointing thing to hear! ;-)

Having taken advantage of Chicago Pizza back in my campus visiting days, I can definitely understand.

Hopefully the OP won’t mind me piggybacking on this thread, but it IS related…

We are coming to Boston for the 2/19 admitted students event, I think it is honors college day. Anyway, I think Northeastern is probably a top 3 choice for my D and she will make the final decision. When we were in Pittsburgh in november, we met some outstanding students wo really went the extra mile with us. Brought us to see their dorm, answered hours worth of questions, just amazing ambassadors for the school. That experience essentially sold us on Pitt.

I’m really hoping my D will have an opportunity to have a similar experience here as well. Anyone either currently attending, or with a kid in attendance who is really having a great experience want to have lunch with us on Saturday afternoon (or coffee or whatever, I’ll buy). Being a weekend there won’t be classes to sit in on or students in tose buildings to observe and talk to, and I just want her decision making to be apples to apples, you know?

I think there’s one kid from our HS there, she doesn’t know him at all so no strong inclination to meet up with him that weekend.

If this doesn’t belong here or annoys the OP please tell me and I will delete it to start another thread.

I’m going on 2/11 for CCIS. I think they have Honors College tours for each event.

Just have to make the short hike to Il Mondo!

NEU does an excellent job with their admitted student’s days - the information is useful for both student and parents.

We were on campus yesterday, thought they did an excellent job for the most part. Would love to compare notes with anyone else who was there!
